Revell 1/144 HMCS Snowberry

Unfortunately i looked at several others assembling these parts on you tube today and they have no problem at all which makes me realise the problem is me. they do however show these minute pieces of PE fitting into slots in the base but on mine the slots are not big enough for some reason. Even squashing the tang on the parts with smooth pliers i cant get the tangs anywhere near into the slots. I think this will have to move away from an accurate model of a Flower class Corvette to a generic escort ship and i will have to provide ammo in a rack or make some other means of storage. the Fence round the gun platform is also causing me problems as its just flat PE posts strung with rope or in this case it will have to be a very fine black fishing line , maybe 2lb breaking strain. I think i might try and remake the posts in brass rod to give them rigidity as you can imagine a little thin strip of PE has zero integrity and even less surface to apply glue . I honestly think i could bend it by blowing on it let alone hanging a thread on it

I just blame the keyboard.

Of course now you can talk at your computer and if you're lucky it will type something that resembles what you said.

Cheers,
RichB

Talk to my computer ? I'm still shoveling coal into this thing to keep it going :)

I get what you mean but to be honest i dont have a lot of luck with speech recognition , might be my guttural London accent...I have tried google searches by voice on the phone but its a bit like those comedy sketches , you know, what size is the main gun on a corvette ?
Chevrolet do not currently fit guns as std to the corvette however it is an optional extra in Chicago......

4-inch Mk. X was a common weapon for floral HMS's back in the day.

Did i ever tell you how much i dislike PE ? :rotf ...in actual fact this particular PE is very good, the brass is strong, the etching means it folds easily but most importantly once folded everything lines up and fits. My only real criticism would be that being brass there are no second chances because even a correct fold is half way to snapping, some steel PE really does bend but this brass semi sheares so get it right first time..

You really can get absorbed in this for hours and not get very far but it is a challenge and it pays off when it comes together.

Thought i would have another go with the H&S today :) I dont know whats wrong with the bloody thing but it can't be much as its brand new.
First attempt pressurised the bowl, the lid flew off like a champagne cork with a pop and it put paint all over the place including me. ( stop laughing bob)
tightening the nozzle seemed to fix that but now it had clogged even running neat acetone through it wouldn't clear it. Complete strip down and i got it to work but then i noticed i had paint coming out the adjuster at the back and then the trigger button. Eventually having got more paint on me than the tiny little bit of PE i wanted to colour i gave up again. I pushed the quick release connector to disconnect the hose and it came out, i then tried to reconnect it and it will not connect to the H&S or the badger....the latching mechanism has broken only used it twice and its genuine H&S.....it could only happen to me :rotf

its out of focus because i was to close and desperately trying not to get paint of thinners on the Nikon but the thing at the top is the ball that pushes the air valve and that got more paint on it than me and you can see the paint is also travelling down the needle tube to the adjuster knob.

I stripped and cleaned it again which took another 30 mins as i didnt have any air pressure til i can get a new coupling then bodged the air line straight on to the brush and its now working perfectly but even with 75% thinned tamiya its starting to clog as i use it and you can see the paint flow is going down. It seems to be drying on the needle tip. Maybe its just a tamiya issue but i cant see why it wouldn't handle one type of paint ? the badger is fine.

Something I have found with mine is that it "seems" to clog, but it is really building up a blob of paint on the needle that sticks out. I take a Q-tip, poke it on the end of the needle, spin it, and pull it back off. Blob is gone and the "clog" is gone. Turns out it isn't internal, as when you pull the needle back the blob blocks the end of the nozzle.
Other than that, sorry you are having so much trouble with your airbrush. I also don't put the cap on the cup except in rare instances.

Yes i have noticed the build up on the tip. I am also having water problems so i have ordered a water trap to go on the airbrush, the compressor has one but its not effective. One of the problems with the quick change fittings is you cant blow air through them when the airbrush is not attached. I used to be able to blow water out of the pipe but i cant do that now as the Quick change shuts off the air supply. another thing is i am using the supplied fine needle and jet... 0.25 and it might just be to fine for the paints and better suited to inks, so i shall try it again with the .44 needle and nozzle which is what i use on the Badger which is fine for what i do. .25 might work with MRP ultra fine pigment paints.
