RB Productions Wood Grain Airbrush Template

A while back when I was looking for a Sutton Harness for the 1/24 Airfix Hawker Hurricane, I stumbled on RB Productions Wood Grain AB Template. It peaked my curiosity so I decided to order one for about $8.00. Master MoonPup asked me kindly (my arm still hurts) if I would like to do a review. Well here it is. Please keep in mind that I never tried seriously to simulate wood grain on a piece of plastic. SO I would like to here your comments of what you think about the outcome. For my part I think it does the trick.

1. Apply base color and then tape the template to the part. Make sure to keep the overspray in mind.

2. Airbrush the color of the wood grain. And after the paint dried, remove the template and......VOILA!

The template is very delicate so extreme care needs to be taken when cleaning it.

Conclusion: I like this template because it helps to recreate a wood grain pattern. And by using different colors its applications are almost endless.

MASTER??   :blink :blink :blink :stinker Hardly, I'm just the IT guy around here.

Nice product, good review Joe. I like the "flame" effect you get with that wood template, something I find hard to do with the oil technique of wood grain. It would really only suit for larger scales I guess?

Moon, I agree with you on the larger scale application. 1/35 would probably the smallest scale you could use it to some effect.

Maybe not- what was that trick with the motorcycle parts and a piece of nylon hosiery? Maybe you could put the nylons down first and then use this template to maybe shrink the effect? Of course it would be an illusion, but thats what we deal with here anyway. This is a cool product- thanks!

Hiya Joe! Interesting idea, could you please post a picture of the grain with something else to give a sense of scale? (y)
