Pz.Kpfw.III Ausf M mit 3.7cm Flak 43

Okay finished the chassis early this morning. First thing I have to warn any one building this kit about. Step 18 shows adding some really tiny pieces (R6 and R7) which would have been better placed back in steps 14 and 15 when the body is being put together. Its almost impossible to do later. Ignore the missing parts on my kit.

And primed ready to start the fun painting part.

Okay trying the AK Interactive modulation set. I'm not sure I like it. This is the dark base.

Its funny because as soon as I called his name and he saw the camera lens he started purring.

HA! He likes the flashy lights...

Modulation looks weird when you're doing it but you gotta finish it, go James! :popcorn

Have one here to that want me to scratch he's belly instead of building :facepalm
Looking forward to see this painting, never tried it myself...

Gotta give the cat his due. (y)

James, the next colors will look really stark too, so just keep going. The filters and washes will bring it together! :soldier (y)

Thanks guys for the vote of confidence. Mats this little fellow is an attention hawg level 100.

Okay pu the base coat on. Tried to mist it and hit open areas so the dark base would be seen. Might have screwed up, but will wait till its dried completely. Starting to look more like what I imagined.

And then taped the turret together to see what it will look like. Really changes the whole look for sure. I cant believe how thin they molded this turret, its awesome.

I just saw on Perth that a Panzer III with Whirblewind turret is coming out. That will also be cool.

Okay frustrated and annoyed :vmad :vmad :vmad I hate this colour modulation paint. I have tried it thinned, from the bottle, with retarder and I am having no luck at all. I had what I wanted for the dark yellow. But when I used the green, first it wouldn't mix. Had ot open the bottle and stir with a tooth pick. Got a good consistency and tried airbrushing. Pressure right and line looked good. Nice coverage. Went to model to paint and nothing came out. Open it up a bit more and paint again. Now it started covering then turned water like a wash then stopped. Nozzle was all gooey. Finally got some lines on and they would do. Tried red and gave up. See if there are some Tamiya paints today. Won't try these again.

:zen :zen :zen :zen :zen
To bad to hear this James, maybe all new things are not good, i prefer the old way of doing things (with some additions of new things :))
If you don't like it, hit it with some tamiya Dark yellow!

I have heard that there were some QC problems with some AK paint batches. Some of the paints
would not mix or thin properly. They will most likely replace the paints if you write them.

With that said, I started using the AK mod set...and finished with Tamiya paints.

Tom

P.S.
Oh btw, wasn't it you that was asking about Tamiya Retarder? I ordered a few bottles from Japan.
Great stuff, add a few drops and it will make Tamiya paints even smoother.

Yes I was wondering. I used some in some dark green today for the stripes on my Pz III and was quite happy.

Good luck James - and good on you for venturing into the unknown.

I have used Tamiya mixed and lightened for accentuating different panels for years (now called modulation)and I don't think you need the new stuff, especially if it doesn't work.
I find Vallejo pretty good as well.

I hope it goes better for you now.

Ian.

Well have the green on. Find I dont have any red brown. So have to sort that out. Here is is so far.

The red brown already on is all I managed to shoot from the modulation set. Maybe try tomorrow. I started the gun but dont want to get too far ahead as I have a barrel coming for it.
