Photo Review of Xuntong's 48th Scale Tu-2VS

Although this isn't Xuntong's first release, this is kit 48001. As built, it should be a Series 6. The modifications must be carried out by the modeler which include cutting off the tip of the clear bombardier's nose, removing the aerodynamic valve covers (aka bumps) from the cowls, and using new engines and spinners provided. An unused set of propellers indicate another variant. Decals are provided for aircraft from the Great Patriotic War yet one is marked as a Series 0 but no mention of any modifications needed are in the instructions.

Re: Photo Review Xuntong Tu-2VS

Looks very comprehensive. Not sure why everyone seems to have ejector marks on the insides now a days, will those one be noticeable or a problem?
Thanks for posting Saul.

The Red Stars, do they have a orange hue to them or is it my screen?

Re: Photo Review Xuntong Tu-2VS

That kit looks very nice Saul. I will have to see about getting one soon.

The ejector pins on the insides of the fuselage may be seen with some effort through the small port holes on the sides. These pin marks are usually in the center of a panel and easy to remove with some putty and sanding blocks. I haven't done so since this kit is for Hubert.

The stars are red. The colors must have shifted on my photo.

Interesting that they would have those indentations in the wings for the dive brakes...make placement easy, but if you ever wanted to pose them open, I would imagine you'd have to fill them in?

Re: Photo Review Xuntong Tu-2VS

I don't have my references handy but I suspect the actual plane was done that way to cut down on drag when the dive brakes were retracted. A lot of effort went into the design to optimize the aerodynamics.

Thanks Saul! I was curious about the kit and surface details. :drinks

All the best!
Dusan.

This looks to be promising, but I wonder about the plastic. Some times but not often the plastic is fairly brittle as in the GWH P-61 kit that Phil bought. :idonno

The only negatives I've read about this kit are the fabric surfaces are a little overdone and something about the nose not being 100% correct.

Its an interesting looking plane though!
