Pearl Harbour tour 2014

Last year I had the opportunity to take my family to Oahu on a holiday over Christmas time. Needless to say I jumped all over the chance to do the full day tour of Pearl Harbour. I've been meaning to get these photos up for some time and given the Pearl Harbour campaign that just started I figured this would be as good a time as any. The one photo is not from the tour but is the observation bunker on Diamond Head. These are not all the photos so if you see something you might want more pictures of let me know. I am linking the gallery as I do not want to spend the time loading these into this post.

I took the liberty of posting the images on your message Dave. Great pictures. What's the story on the B17?

Thanks Bob. The B-17 was dug out of a swamp somewhere in the Pacific and will be the subject of a major restoration for the Pacific Aviation Museum.

Pearl Harbor is somewhere every American should visit in their lifetime. I had the privilege of visiting during one of my port calls at Hawaii on return from the Persian Gulf. Standing above the Arizona, seeing the bubbles of fuel oil rise to the surface, knowing of all the souls trapped likely forever inside the underwater tomb... It was a very sombering experience that hit me to the core. If I ever find myself back in Hawaii, it will certainly be a stop again. I don't think I've met anyone that has visited the memorial that wasn't affected in at least a little way.

:salute

Great pics, thanks for sharing. The last time i was in Hawaii was 1981 and never made it to the Arizona.

I posted this late last night so I didn't add much about my experience but like helios said if you ever get the chance DO IT!!! Even if you only have time to visit the Arizona it is well worth it. I was able to do the whole tour with and i did it through a tour company which was also worth it when doing it for the first time as they know the in and outs of when to be where. I'm sure I wouldn't have made it to half the stuff with out them. My wife and my two youngest kids knew very little about the history of Pearl Harbour, or of WWII for that matter, so it was an awesome opportunity for them to learn more. My daughter thought I was dragging her to another boring museum but she was quite moved by it as well. Anyway it was probably a once in a lifetime chance for me and I'm grateful for the experience.

:salute :drinks

It's on my bucket list to go there.

Thank you.

Although it has been an obsession with me I have never had the opportunity to go. Honestly the picture of the oil on the water is to me the most breath catching of the pictures.

Again thank you.
