Pearl Harbor 75th (ribbons need opinions)

Pearl Harbor 75th

I pretty much figured that there were only supply and basic transport type vehicles. Army presence wasn't as big as the Navy presence.

Bob it wouldn't start for almost 3 more months and then would go for a year. I could do that and am pretty under right now too.

I'd put up a poll, just don't really know how.

EDIT

OK I figured it out. Poll posted. Three options, 3 different ribbons and could get them all though the Arizona ribbon is gonna be a bigger special one. (like a trailer a double wide) ;)
Have a neat idea for the infamy one as well.

FIghtNJoe runs a Pearl Harbor History group on Facebook. I seem to recall there were some Armor there at the time but, Joe would know...

I've got the 1/350 Trumpy/Banner kit on the shelf of shame right now (about 3/4s done) I may have something else for this build, not sure what yet...

Had three Unk's in WW2. the aforementioned was a Corpsman, fought Guadalcanal & Pelieliu, was wounded and was on a hospital ship at Iwo. Two other Unks both fought in Europe. Sadly, all are gone, the last passed July 2014

Had several Great grand uncles in PH 7 DEC 1941! One went down on the Oklahoma. One or two on the Arizona. One was aboard the Honolulu & his brother was on the UTAH! They went on to fight the rest of the war.

I believe I have a kit that would fit in rather well with this group build...

There ya go Kenny! Looks good!

I got the main part of what I wanted to build in yesterday. IT'S HUGE!!

Trumpy's 1/200 Arizona. Got the extra Trumpy addon with brass 5' barrels. After studying the Eduard stuff last night will be getting that addon too. Won't be getting a wood deck though. They are all too thick. It would have to be decal thin to really work.

One kit I'd love to build for this would be the USS HONOLULU CL-48 a Brooklyn class Lt. Cruiser but, have yet to find one :bang head

There were a number of subjects for the Army in Hawaii at the time, and yes even some armor.

It escapes me as to which unit this was part of. It seems there was one armor unit as well as the units for the artillery. Hawaii had one of the two "disappearing" guns in the world. It also had several mortar units.

Joe

Edit: The tank company was the 11th. Between myself and Saul, two pictures were found of subjects from this unit. The one in this post and another showing one tank in a training exercise (1941 sometime, not sure exact date).

I know what you mean, I would like to do a nice build of the Oklahoma, but no kits to be had.
Yep, lost a great granduncle on her. I think she's the sister ship of the NEVADA

this it?

Those are awesome photos Jeff! The color photos really show just how off my impressions of the ship colors of the time are. Even the B&W photos show a lot. The one showing the Pennsylvania behind the 2 totaled destroyers clearly shows the white tops on the masts.

Nice! But, too rich fer my blood tho :bang head

While I can and work in microscopic mode, I don't care for 1/700 scale stuff. Too small for most people to see.

I can see a 'Kate' or a 'Val' in my futute !!

Ian.

...erm no, on a hunch, I took a look at the AM SBD-2 I've had in the stash for a few years, more accurately I took a look at the 'Yellow Wings' decals that I got for it, there's four options on the sheet; the two USN options are for aircraft that were on 'the carriers that got away', and one of the USMC options is for a machine that was based in Hawaii in December '41.

So, that's me sorted-out if this campaign does happen. :drinks

Well folks, I have my kit and am planing to build on it even if this GB doesn't make.

Here it is.

I even thought about the wood deck, but all those are way too thick and mess up how the detail on the deck works. I will go with paint which I can add all kinds of texturing and shades with.

So, anyone going to join in?

Pearl Harbor 75th

I tried the wood deck on the Graf Spee and agree with you, think painting the deck looks better.

Pearl Harbor 75th

The Banner kit of Arizona is the same as Trumpeter. I've heard tat the wooden decks for it are kind of difficult to get to lay down & tend to cause other problems. Best to just paint the decks.

Thanks. I also added the Japanese Attack Force and their fate so, will post here as well http://www.navsource.org/Naval/japan.htm

I'm debating on whether to do a Jap ship or, an American aircraft :hmmm I have the Jap carrier SHOKAKU AND THE BATTLE WAGON Kirishima in the stash... Slim pickin's on the US Planes tho, I got a Hellcat, Kingfisher, P-40, SB2C-4, F2A-2, AT-6, and the Vac kit of the SB2U Vindicator :hmmm

Pearl Harbor 75th

Believe it or not Ed, there were some P-26 Peashooters listed as on the island during the attack as well.
