One of my other hobbies - simracing

Myself and a bunch of friends teamed up for a go at this weekends iRacing 24 Hours of Daytona. 6 drivers for two 2-hour stints behind the wheel...ended up bringing our McLaren home in 2nd place in the GT3/GTD class.

Now it's time to finish getting the MA livery completed on the Aston Martin DBR9 GT1 car for this Sunday's Pacific Majors race at Daytona (along with trying to work on the Aussie Mirage). :java

Background simplified. Updated with "The Dude". Northwest Club & 2old2play sponsors added. She's ready to go for Daytona so I can focus on other things now. B)

I played around w/ GIMP some more tonight, and figured out how to make transparent backgrounds for some of the logos. Having figured this out opened up a lot of flexibility in what I can do for a base paint.

I figured since most of the models we build around here are military models...what would be more appropriate than camo?

I present to you v1.3 of the GBR MA DB9R.

I'm going to get rid of the 135 insignia on the roof, and go back to the smaller insignias on the rear quarter panels. I'll also be adding something on the windscreen banner...most likely a Pacific Majors logo if I can find one for the series, and some Aston Martin script on the rear wing.

Qualification is complete. Grid is set for tomorrow's 2.4hrs of Daytona, Round 1 of the 2016 Pacific Majors Series. By a stroke of luck, I qualified the GBR MA Aston Martin in the Pro grid.

Paint is finalized for tomorrow, and will likely stay very similar for all the Predator format races for the season.

Broadcast for tomorrow's race will be provided by GSRC. Feel free to check it out if you're bored.

Following the race at Daytona, I ended up chatting with a fellow Northwest club driver and we ended up forming up a full team (5 drivers).

Race 3 took us to Sebring, for a 2 hour trip around the old airbase under a setting sun. Last night's Am split race was very successful for the GoneBrokeRacing/Modeler's Alliance team. Kyle Murphy brought his BMW Z4 GT3 home in first place, I followed up in the Aston Martin for 5th, while Paul Garinger finished just outside of the top 10 after coming back from a couple earlier issues. Michael Dao, the lone Pro GBR/MA driver, survived for a solid mid-pack finish in his Mclaren.....against some very fast drivers.

Am split broadcast.

The GBR/Modelers' Alliance Audis (and BMW) are attacking the Nurburgring tonight. Should be good and messy. :rotf

Last night was 500 laps around the colosseum of Bristol. I was well off the pace of the front runners, as I don't normally run ovals. But for the most part I was able to stay out of trouble.

Half the field didn't qualify, which left me starting well up the grid (P18). Promptly got relegated back to P36 as the faster cars moved their way past. Slowly moved through the field as attrition took place...then got turned around by someone deciding to make it 3 wide in the corner. 2.5 minute tow to the pits, and 5.5 minutes of repairs & I was back on track...dropping back down to around 27th. Avoided all the wrecks from there and found myself all the way up to 12th at the finish.

A fair bit of camera time for the MA Fusion...particularly when I stayed on track to get the wave arounds on the yellows. :rotf

Spent some time last night and whipped up a paint for the Thursday night truck series I've started participating in here and there. Trying to get a little more oval experience for the PacMajors races.

Speaking of PacMajors...ran a 600 mile race @ Charlotte Sunday night in the MA Fusion. Started 18th on the grid, stayed out of trouble most of the night, ended up running around the back end of the top 10 for a lot of the night...finishing in 7th place. I did end up getting caught in a wreck on the final restart and DNFing. A bit disappointing that...but at least I had a couple laps back to 8th so at least I didn't lose any spots.

PS: I've also got an MA paint set up for the Falcon V8 Supercar and the Porsche GT3 Cup...but I don't have any pics of them yet. :D
