MODEL FORUM "EXPERT ADVISE"

A little piece of advise.....don't tell someone their model may be wrong when it is obvious to fix it will result in the destruction of the model. You may feel good about yourself for saving the modeling world from yet another mistake, but all you have really done is piss in the other guys cornflakes. Time your comments wisely or you may do more damage to the hobby with your expertise.

Just saying

Terry :eek:ldguy

Haha This always happens to me after I finish a late war luftwaffe subject. Always. I don't mind though, just more info for next time. But, I understand what you're saying Terry.

Yeah! A comment like "Are you using this RLM color for your plane" would work better then say "You know that color was never used on that plane"

:rotf No one here. All I'm saying is if you going to be helpful do it before the model is finished when the other guy can do something about it.

B)

Had 3 guys pull that crap about my pictures on another forum. There wasn't anything helpful or positive about what they said. Consequently I WILL NOT visit that forum ever again. In this case it is very much their loss.

I have taken to heart what others here do and always try to be helpful and positive with what I post for other folks.

I must say that I have mistakes here and from what I have experienced, everyone here has always been nice about it, letting me know in a NICE way that is also reaffirming as to how to fix.

I too once posted something on another forum's site related to find a tank in a river and got some incredibly rude responses made me sure I was NEVER going back there again

You scared Me Mis-ta T ... I Thought I had done something wrong again ... Look I maybe a old fart ... (I don't really like to be reminded of this) ... But as a modeler I'm just learning how to do it right this time. So that being said I screw up on the forums, Hey I'm still a young man at modeling. I would like to thank you for this Terry, as my work has been picked on, it isn't very funny to a guy who's doing His best.

Argh! :bang head :bang head :bang head This is a PRIME example for you to use Terry!

Was looking around on another forum and saw where a guy got his assembly totally wrong. Somewhat familiar with what he was building and it was a FUBAR. He was totally unaware of the goof and was quite happy with what he was building. NOT my place to burst his bubble. One of those instances where if you can't say something nice or constructive, don't say anything at all. :drinks

I tend to be OCD about stuff and do a lot of research for all kinds of things. I also tend to work on the Form - Function - Fit principle. Thus how parts fit together just comes to me. I end up with like 3D assemblies in my head with a snap. Drives me crazy watching Utube videos of someone else and watch them fumble around fitting parts. Usually they get it and assemble it correctly. When they don't, I have to step back and remember that it is their model, their build, and if they are happy with it then that is the point and I bite my tongue and congratulate them.

A shorter tongue is better than bad Karma. :hmmm

Hey Terry,

I appreciate your words. As someone who is always hoping for the best but expecting the worst in modelling, I don't really mind if someone makes a harsh comment (we surgeons have Panzer-skin).

Nonetheless, I agree with you that criticism just for the sake of criticism may be an ego booster but most definitely non-productive. I guess some people feel good when busting someone's chops. Little do they know that very soon someone else will come along that will be much better than them (such is life. It always happens) and then all that inflated ego will hurt.. a lot.

Have a nice weekend,

Alex

I think a lot of these people mean well, but their sense of timing is bad. Your're not helping if you give the solution to problem after the guy has already finished that part of the model. It would have done Ed no good if I had told him the Academy Tiger I transmission parts didn't fit well after he had already tried to do that part of the kit. See what I mean.

:)

Please please burst my bubble :frantic ......seriously :D . I'm an anal accuracy nut, but I'm also extremely lazi. I like to know what's wrong, but I probably ain't gonna fix it.. :zen

I believe that for the most part you're correct, most of these people are really just trying to help. I do know some people though that will rip apart any little inaccuracy or any flaw in your build. There is one guy in particular that sticks out for me. He is very active on another site and happened to be in the same club as me. The guy would just rip apart every little thing wrong with someone's build, including the kit inaccuracies that weren't fixed by the builder. Funny thing, I've never seen him complete a build ever. Some people are just mean that way, and like you said Terry, it does more to hurt the hobby then it does to help an individual builder.

That's one of the things I love about this site. This is the nicest forum I have ever been on. Everyone is polite and considerate to each other. Its refreshing to be a part of and in truth helps me keep that fire burning under the work bench!

:salute
