Hey Greg, its really weird as I just picked up a Takom Apache 64D Longbow in 1:35 from my local model shop.
I too have never built a modern Helo and just thought , why not, last week.

I kept the scheme because it would be easy to apply in micro-scale. I only have Dragon's 1:144th scale UH-60 kits which were found during a search for some scratch-building supplies in a metal closet. Actually one kit (they were of the 1+1 variety with two kits in one box) of each since the other was obviously built for someone.
I'm too lazy to consider them for the Micro Modeler Month.

I was thinking I have a 1/350 Helo left over from my Missouri I could do for the MMM thingy. Maybe,...maybe...
1/350th scale? Even less pieces! Too small for me as I had a lot of broccoli and the after-effect may make it take-off!

We dont get lioness over here but it looks like the original script was written with an Apache in mind but they didnt change it when production dictated a Black hawk
There is also some debate why she always wears a flotation collar in Afghanistan
Watching a series last night on RAF "Top guns" with the Typhoons of 13 Sqn in Cyprus flying over Iraq and its so full of edit mistakes its pretty poor given its a factual fly on the wall documentary ... but then i supose most wouldn't notice that he took off in a 2 seat and reached altitude in a single seat F4 Typhoon.
When he looks out the side at the scenery whizzing past at a 100 ft and his wingman then looks back at him and he is at 20000ft

Since I am building this I will go ahead and post the box content photos. There are definately a crap-ton of parts with this model and my cloth was just big enough to lay them out for a total parts photo.
As with other Meng (I found out it is pronounced "Mong") the detail is superb and the sprues are very clean.

If you have the Kittyhawk 1/35th scale Jayhawk and are willing to spend an extra $65USD for the conversion and another $20USD for the decal sheet from Werner's Wings, you can build it too! With the sharkmouth!

When did the Coast Guard adopt the “slash” for its cutters, boats, and aircraft?
The design consists of a wide red bar forward of a narrow blue bar both canted at 64 degrees above the horizontal with the Coast Guard emblem superimposed. It was originally recommended in 1964 by the industrial design firm of Raymond Loewy/William Snaith, Incorporated and was adopted service-wide on 6 April 1967.
The color red used in the slash is Pantone 179.
The color blue used in the slash is Pantone 307
From the USCG Color and Coatings Manual:
Coast Guard Diagonal Stripes. The diagonal stripes are to be painted red (12199), white (17925),
and blue (15182).
The USCG Color and Coating Manual was updated in the year 2000' That update replaced white (17875) with white (17925). White (19925) is a pure white; while white (17875) has a slight gray tinge.”
FS12799 is USCG red-orange— It looks like International Orange with a little red added. I have a few bottles of the discontinued ModelMaster “Coast Guard Red” that I use- it is the right color.

I began the Apache tonight. I labeled the sprues with tape
I set up the poster of the version I am making
Then I began the cockpit. Looking at reference photos and other builds of this model it seems the interior of the cockpit is variations of dark gray, darker gray, and black. I looked to see how far I should build before painting. It seemed like after step 2 was a good time to paint. How to make black look interesting? I primed with Mr Surfacer 1500 black thinned about 10% with Mr Leveler. I left some near future pieces on the sprue and primed them as well. Next I selected various Vallejo gray's and did some tests. Drybrushing with almost no paint on the brush in the following steps worked well:
German Gray
London gray
Medium Sea gray
And a final black wash. I will let this dry then drybrush some more layers to hopefully make it interesting
