When I saw this kit on sale a couple years back I thought I might 'bite' on this one.

I have the figure assembled now, the only thing left to do now (and is the worst) is fitting the cape and then filling and sanding it while on the figure...something is bound to go wrong here.

Earlier today I painted the outside of the cape semi-gloss black and last time I checked it was still a little tacky so I won't touch it for another 12 hours just to be on the safe side.
I did do a test fit of the cape on the finished figure and its not that a good fit...the gap on the seam lines are terrible and will need to be filled and sanded and then painted while mounted on the figure...I am not looking forward to doing this.

A home made cape would be better in a lot of ways but doing that would have required a lot of planning beforehand and this model is so close to being finished I will go with the cape that came with the kit. I will get a pic of the seam line gap on the cape to show what I will be dealing with.

I am no expert on the Aurora movie monster kits so I am not sure if this is an older mold kit or a much newer designed kit, a part on the kit has a Revell 1991 copyright mark on it.
Funny that you mentioned the Mummy kit, someone recently offered to send me one of those...hope its true since the Mummy was a fav of mine back in the mid 1960s and would love to try and build it again!

The cape has been glued on the Dracula figure, in this in-progress pic you can see the problem with the seam line gap. I will fill this in with putty and carve and sand it until its ready for paint, I really hate getting dust on the rest of the figure but have no choice here.

that seam is a pain but easily do-able but loads of masking for the cape repaint

I used some masking tape on each side of the seam lines before I smeared on some red Bondo putty and after it dries I will carve and sand it down to get the cape ready for paint. I am not too worried about the overspray problem when I paint the cape, my airbrush is an Iwata Revolution BR and it can spray in confined areas with precision. What I am concerned about is breaking the glue joint on the cape, there is not too much surface with glue holding that thing together.

I often use super glue as a seam filler on my aircraft models but did not feel comfortable trying it here on this type of surface texture, once that super glue is fully set its almost impossible to sand or carve it and by using the red Bonde there is plenty of time to work with or remove it if need be.
