Liquitex Brush Cleaner ??

Hey Everybody,


Watch this Video, about 2 minutes in this Gentleman introduces Me to a new way to do weathering on White Wash. He uses Liquitex Brush Cleaner. Does any one know Where I can find this ?? I live in the U.S. & would love to find it Locally ... meaning in th U.S. ... but if I can't I'll order abroad ... It looks Soooo Real & Awesome !!! IN fact This whole series of Videos is Waaay Cool ! :woohoo: .

It's a T.V. show in Japan , where They take two Modelers & give them the same Kit & follow how that assemble & finish !! There are a Boat load of these on You Tube !!

I speak Dutch,German and some English [not perfect I know ]
If I could just understand Japanese it would be a part better.

Check Hobby Lobby, I know they carry that brand name.

Hobby Lobby has Liquitex but not that product. Phantom II contacted Liquitex and they told him it's not available in the US Any truth to that rumor??

I have always bought Liquitex products in art stores, usually the high end ones. I never bought that particular product though. I would assume it is a solvent like any other and you could make substitutions, IE: mineral spirits, thinner, etc.

MIKE - I have yet to find it. Even down here in V.A. I even check with a High-End Art store in Chicago. They had never heard of it ??? I was hoping maybe some of Our European friends might know where to find it. It's very specific - It's for cleaning Acrylic Paint out of Brushes.

BOB- It's not quite the same. As it's made for Acrylic Paint. The Others( Mineral Spirits,Thinner) will harm the Base Coat. If you check the Video out closely They use an Enamel based Paint for their Base coat & Vallejo Air(acrylic) for their White Wash & the Acrylic Brush Cleaner to gently Remove the White wash. I wish there was a Way to ask the Modeler that made the Video to see if it's available.

A stumper. :hmmm Liquitex told Phantom they don't sell it in th U.S. , but neglected to tell him Who exactly sells it ???? Dosen't make sense ? :gogo :gogo

Erik, as I recall, the bottle said thinner for Liquitex paints, but no brand was visible. Again, I'm going from memory and have not looked back thru the video. The man made the stuff work like magic, it is something I'd buy, if I was sure I had the right stuff.

Yeah. It's made By Liquitex & also has Acrylic on the Bottle but there is some more Japanese writing on it. I paused it when I was talking to the People from Chicago & could not find a Stock # .... Any one know Japanese ?

MIKE- Ya' think any of Our Far-East friends might know where to find it ?? I'd buy a case to get that stuff over here !!

Erik I think you can achieve the same effect with any number of combination of paint mediums with out this specific product. The trick is to have a protective barrier between the camo and the whitewash. say a lacquer based clear coat. Then acrylic whitewash, then acrylic thinner worked into that layer. The acrylic thinner is not going to touch the base colors unless you really really scrub at it.

The same can be achieved with acrylic over enamel or vise versa. It all boils down to having that mixed medium where a thinner will work on one layer and not the lower layers.

I did a similar application of washes on the Voo Doo I did last year using the Pactra Aerogloss hot fuel dope as the barrier coat. Nothing short of lacquer thinner was going to get through that stuff.

yeah. It just seemed like a Cool Technique & I wanted to try it( I'm just being Hard headed & stuborn ).If th Truth be Told I could probably get th same effect using any type of Acrylic Brush cleaner ??? Or I just might stick to th Hair Spray method !! :angry:

Thanx for th tip with th Dope Thinner. I have a jar collecting dust on My shelf !

Be sure to open windows and door when you spray that hot fuel dope...ask me how I know!
