Latest Acquisitions Revisited!

Ordered Friday. Here on Monday. Nice job Spraygunner!

I sprayed some with it just now. I like it. Parts look identical to the Gaahleri Mobius but it sure doesn't act like it.

It's like other people's hairdos. I have NO room to criticize.
I'm on my 4th Testors Aztek, with one more left. I do have a Tamiya Sprayworks airbrush I rarely use.

I used one of my basic H&S brushes yesterday with the .6 tip and needle and sprayed the red primer on the carriage of my howitzer. To clean the Vallejo primer out, I use lacquer thinner which works great. I only thin the Vallejo with Vallejo airbrush thinner and a bit of Vallejo flow improver.

To get the H&S Airbrushes cleaned at the end of a session, I spray it out, add lacquer thinner (which dissolves Vallejo fairly well), spray it out, then take the tip off, and pull the needle out the front. Take the cup off, and use Q-Tips and the Gum between the teeth brushes as in this photo.

I received this on the last Monday of September but only recently opened it up and it is, like all Cold War Studios, excellent in value and a comprehensive correction and detail set!

A couple of PE tools i think i might need arrived from Amazon.

Its a shame amazon tend to beat most model shops on price however i think some of their items are supplied by model shops just via amazon...
As someone who used to run my business in competition with amazon i have huge sympathy with private retailers. The real problem or should i say decider in most cases is the postal service is so bad now that Amazon win because you just know you will get the item the next day if not the same day
The PE I ordered for my ship managed to do 5600 miles to the UK in 2 days and now its been sitting in customs just 20 miles away for 2 days and yet because of the value its not even liable for customs duty.

@paddy Here are a couple of items you might look out for. I have found them quite handy for all kinds of things, but especially for working with odd PE parts.

Also to keep from launching small parts, check out my thread on reworking and cleaning up your tweezers. To keep from launching "really" small parts, use a small ball of silly putty or soft tack and place it on the edge of the part. When the part cuts free, it will be held by the putty and won't fly off.

I finally got paid and so decided it was time to get some things off the wish list and into my stash pile. It also helped that a number of sales were happening that helped.

And that's it so far. I should be digging into some of these very soon.

This weekend I had both my IPMS club meeting and the Antelope Valley model contest. The weekend before was Orangecon. I gained quite a bit from all of these events.

First, at Orangecon I got these two in the raffle:

At the Antelope Valley contest, my friend Sean won this Black Knight kit and gave it to me:

It's gonna be an interesting time on the bench!

I have a number of new acquisitions that have piled up over the last 2 or 3 weeks, so here we go.

As most of you know I use a jewelers saw for a lot of my cutting. I was finally down to my last 6/0 blade (.010 wide) and it was time for some more. This time I also bought a bunch of 8/0 blades which I think are .007 wide. A little more delicate, but I didn't really have too much trouble with the 6/0 blades, so why not.

Finally found some of the small A sets in stock so bought them. They will work for 1/35th and small 1/16th just fine.

On Sprue Bros I noticed in their "restock" email that they had a bunch of items for the old Revell 1/32 He 111P1 kit which I have had since it first came out, but had no aftermarket parts for it. Now it is fully stocked.

These are new! Masks for insignia and letters as well as the canopy inside and outside.

Andy's had ICM kits on sale and I had wanted these so I snagged them I would like to get the yellow Stearman with the red marking but it was sold out.

This finally came in to stock with Squadron. Big ugly tank, but it has always intrigued me. It is in the same box size as the King Tiger and the tank is almost as big as the King Tiger. Plus it is fully filled with all the engines generators, running gear and other interior stuff. Fun part will be figuring out how to have it being worked on so the interior can be shown. Might have to get plans for the 20 ton gantry and scratch build it so that it can be taking the tank apart, or reassembling it.

I now have 3 of these large boxes and the best way to get rid of the boxes will be to build the tanks.

First up i got use Dspiae rolling set for the first time :). My only complaint is no instructions at all ? A look on You tube showed someone using one but i could roll a half tube but not a full tube. A look at the Model build i am following from the model shed on you tube and he annealed the brass first and so i tried that and Bingo, perfect tube

Essential tool if you need to put a curve in PE. 10/10

Next three tamiya products, two PE folding pliers and a sprue cutter. none of these are cheap but we all know tools are one of those things where you get what you pay for and these are near perfect. The cutters are very very sharp, very pointed that gives then the ability to get at E attachment points that normally are to narrow for snips.
The folding pliers are good but they are Tamiya and designed for Tamiya PE....so what's the difference ?
Well on pliers the jaws normally shut parallel when closed. but these shut parallel when the jaws are a thickness of PE apart. That way they grip down the length of a long edge of PE.. on std pliers the jaws would grip nearest the pivot point of the jaws and not down the length as the jaw shut is tapered. This is actually more critical than you might thing because this PE i have for the ship is obviously thinner than std tamiya PE so these pliers grip on the open end and get slacker to no grip down their length....does that make sense :) but they do the job. Beautifully made with no play and a very nice finish.
These four items cost well over £110 so near $147 but having used them in anger now i would buy them again.i

Nice review Paddy. I got a couple of roller tools with wood dowls and a metal frame. It's worked well for me in the past.
Very nice to see something to replace The Small Shop versions from years ago... Well, almost. ;)
The more affordable wooden dowel one...
_MVC_204F.jpg

The fancier aluminum dowel one with slotted end for bending wire and strips...
_MVC_203F.jpg

Plus a rubber pad for bending and rolling... That is an Aber 3.7cm anti-aircraft cannon cone suppressor being rolled there.
MVC-201F.JPG

Yes the rubber type pad is essential and comes as a self adhesive item on the Dspiae kit which they recommend you stick to the base of the a roller jig (which i did)
