Latest Acquisitions Revisited!

Every bit of me wants to set the Lionel up on the patio. For testing purposes, of course!
It might get strafed by a passing F6F-3. :hmm:

After the cool, little 3D printed gunboat model that came, I thought I might gamble on these 1/700 scale Auxiliary Intelligence Trawlers. They looked like whalers, but are big draggers. Opening the box showed something amiss. The just looked too little. Out comes the digital caliper and Wikipedia!

Wikipedia documents these well-known vessels at 47 meters (154.199 feet) Length Over All, 1/700 LOA magic waterline model calculator says 2.643 inches in LOA. These model trawlers actual length is 2.385 inches or 139.125 feet in real life. A little more creative mathematics tell us the actual scale of this kit is 1/760. The ChiCom 3D Print guys need additional math classes.
What's more is, this is THEIR Navy's ship!
A message to the seller with a big "DUH" in it followed my discovery.
China Model kits.
Putting the Crap in "Crap-shoot".

I bit of a purchase of stuff for dios and modern armour........the AK Real Colors can only be diluted or washed in AK Real Colors thinner. Believe me I found out the hard way - the acrylic paint will not wash out with water.
The Ultra matt varnish is just that and very good. The AMMO Oil Brusher products are also very good. The advantage is the delivery.......oil paint ready to go on a thin brush that can be resealed back into a container. I find the ones that work for me are the small use ones like fresh engine oil, engine grime, fuel stains of vegitation colors. I use normal artists oils for all my other uses as the ability to control my own delivery and 'dryness' of the medium would not work well for me with this system of delivery.

While trying to recover all my photographs from last November, I did get these in.

Useful information on the guns but I am far more interested in the mounts and turrets, such as on my Havocs:

While looking for a junker to take the nose from, I came across this seller with a kit with no decals. Didn't sell for over a month so I made a ridiculous off and got it for $25USD shipped. Pristine and only missing the decals so I still need to find, or make (@Rhino) a new nose. This will be number six... Clock box to see inside!

A-20G-20-DO serial 43-9711, coded 5C*M, named Moanin' Gus, is a unique ETO skull-face:

Yes, it might be some time before I recover those files...

I have a novel Idea! What would happen if you assembled one of these A-20 models?
We had the 1/48 nose conversation a while back. I did not believe my proposal was acceptable at that time.
Not much of a novel idea as I have been making & gluing new interior parts. Sadly, all my images are in limbo as I try to recover them.

Yes, we did have the nose conversation and I tag you as I will need guidance. ;)

Yeah, the US flag has changed over the years. Started with just 13 stars and everytime a new state is added we add a flag. During WW2 the flag had 48 starts, Alaska and Hawaii were added in 59 and 60. That's why you hear about Hawaii being the Five O.

I think I used the big one with the most wear and it has 48 stars :smack::doh:I am just going to run with it . Maybe the crew had an old US flag from WW2 ? I have seen images of Russian Allies driving German ww2 motorcycles and they even used and old JS tank that they got from an historical display. Do you think it will matter?

Value Gear

You Tank guys probably already know all about Value Gear. I won this stuff in Madison raffle. Steve Munsell and Jeff Barrette are evidently friends. It is my impression Steve is a US Manufacturer, just like me. His casting method is the speedier flat casting style. I thought maybe the details looked a little soft, but if you look closer, they are pretty nice! A little flat wet-sanding and you're good!
Steve's story about making 100 or so scale potatoes is one I identify with!

As models migrate from the house to the "Hobby Shop" container/shed, I found 3 of these sealed, vintage treasures. It was during my "High Road To China" phase. These were going to be Major Patrick O'Malley's "Lillian" and "Dorothy" bi-planes. Then Sentai went and had a clearance sale on them in 1997! I spent most of today listing new/vintage/rare model kits on tlarmodels.com
