Latest Acquisitions Revisited!

Also finally broke down and picked up some of the MM Metalizer paints to try out. I've long been curious about them. The RF-4E will be the guinea pig.

Wear a mask, they funky!
Did you get the polishable ones?

Metalizers have been a staple on my bench since the 90's, they look good, but don't stand up to much handling without rubbing off. The new Xtreme Metal from AK spray well and are quite bulletproof to handling and weathering, highly recommended. (y)

Well they are lacquer based. ;) Most are the buffable ones, though a couple are not.

Yeah, I remember reading something about that a while ago...probably part of the reason I've been putting it off for so long. I've got the sealer so I can get them covered up in clear shortly after it's painted because of that.

I have looked into the AK stuff before as I've seen a couple people have really good results with it, but unfortunately they aren't available locally. Paints I tend to prefer to buy here if I can, which pretty much limits me to MM & Tamiya. I will order though if I have to and there are no suitable alternatives.

Scored a couple kits I've been watching for on a trip down to a Seattle hobby shop with a couple guys from the local modeling club.

Found an original Testors "Those Fabulous Fords" GT40 Mk1...I don't recall the last time I've actually seen one of these. I remember my dad having the full set (Mk1, MkII, MkIV) of these way back in the day (almost 40 years ago :S ). Unlike the more common Fujimi MKIIs which are just curbside kits, this old Testors kits are the full shebang. Should be good practice before I take on my Simil-R FGT GT1. Now to keep my eyes open for the old Testors MkII & MkIV for the set. Probably add a Fujimi MkII for good measure and a new Revel GTE for the full collection for racing Ford GT cars. B)

Also happened to stumble across the Sturgeon class sub that I was fixing to order on eBay. My dad also served on the USS Bluefish SSN-675 in addition to the USS Springfield. I may try to throw the Bluefish together before I go out to visit them in October. Make a little presentation and all. :)

Also ended up with another A-7E, A-4E/F, and an AV-8B+ (all 1/48 Hasegawa) for $10 ea because they had been opened and some pieces snipped off sprues. The only parts missing out of any of the kits after a thorough inventory were decals and belly gun pods from the Harrier. And those I can hijack from one of my GR.7/9 British Harriers (Eduard boxings).

FYI, Randy Ditton carries lots aftermarket parts for GT-40. https://www.modelbuilderswh.com/

And a link to something us mere mortals can aspire to.

I have found the Alclad paints work quite well and really like their black grey and white base coat/primer paints. Also many of them seem to hold up to moderate handling as well.

If you remember I picked up this kit last week after Free Time sent out an e-mail. Basically I jumped on it.

Talked to them today, and it turns out they found the "ONE" in some box in the warehouse. "ONLY ONE"

I found this out when I asked them about if it was an old stash and he thought I was asking about if they had more. I said no I got one, and he said "Oh! YOU got THE one we found!" Then it was My turn to go "OH!"

Sometimes you just get lucky.

Last Wednesday, JUST before going to the Nooga Nats, this finally came. It is a numbered cast and this is the thing about figures, unbuilt, the don't depreciate. In many cases, especially once no more can be made they go up in value.
Here are some photos of the painted prototype. Sculpted by one of the premier figure sculptors, Roberto Von Behr this figure is well sought after.

Jame those GAZ trucks are Ford Model AA or AAA trucks. So for chassis drive train detail be sure to check Model A sites too when doing research.

Thanks. I found a few engine pics but need to find some more to do the engine right. With the side panels off that is going to be a necessity. Will try and find some more Ford AA info.
