Package landed today. Saw a unique little bird pop up on SprueBros Deal of the Day for $16. Well, the bird itself isn't unique...but the markings are. :coolio Had to have it.

Finally getting around to posting my new additions. The DH.2 has been in my hands for a bit, the other WNW kits were ordered just before the new shipping costs cut in. I have not really bought much the last few months as I had been focusing on paying off my credit cards. Finally managed that in late May so I splurged a bit and jumped on the last of the free shipping on the WNW kits. Part of the decision on the Duelists kit was that it would probably cost more to ship than the others so I would probably get the best savings to go ahead and bite the bullet now. Wanted a 'Stowe kit and definitely wanted a HB W.29 so it wasn't a hard decision. The others were just wants though the Junkers I figured better get it while the getting is good. That was the first kit issued and probably not many left in stock.

While I could have gotten by with a much smaller and simpler printer, I went a little extra. The possibilities of the large format can come in handy especially when I can create my own drawings. It will still do 4 x 6 photo prints and can print on printable CD/DVD's. I could have gotten a slightly different Cannon printer that only had 5 inks (no grey cartridge) and had a few less bells, but went with the better quality one. Eventually I will try some of the "much" cheaper aftermarket ink cartridges that are available, but for now will use the official ones to test and print.

I have discovered that the driver is mainly a 64bit device and it doesn't want to load the options box when running 32 bit software. :bang head It will still print though as a very basic unit. Lucky for me I have the 64bit version of Canvas that I can load the drawings and print in. However, Canvas 16 has really been screwed up and is a LOT LESS easy to use than Canvas X. :vmad :bang head

It was almost a toss up for me between the 2 following printers. I bought mine from NewEgg and since they have a warehouse here in Memphis I was able to actually go and pick it up. No ham handed UPS guys taking 3 days to get across town for this one. I have a link to the NewEgg pages which gives all the tech details.

The one I bought Cannon PIXMA iP8720.

The alternate Cannon PIXMA iX6820.

What it came down to was that they both are supposed to work with wireless devices and use the same ink tanks with the iP7820 adding a grey ink tank and ability to print to CD/DVD's. Looks like they are both wireless and both are fairly big. The iP7820 is 23.5 wide by 13 deep and 6.5 high. Of course when opened up with paper it is a fair bit bigger, but closed up it isn't too imposing.

My decision finally came down to the fact that I am going to be printing some decals with a lot of grey areas in them. The grey ink will make that a lot smoother looking as opposed to the CYMB mix alone. I also liked the look of the printer case with the mostly flat top as opposed to the iX6820 with a more domed top. Price wise there is only about $70 difference between them. Computer Shopper rated both as Editors Choice in an article I found online.

Not cheap, but the last Cannon printer I bought is still working 14 years later. Only snag was it isn't supported by Win 8.1.

Had an Epson super tabloid printer back in the late 90's and loved having the ability to print big stuff, but it wasn't fully supported by XP and so died the printer death.
