Latest Acquisitions Revisited!

I've got that kit in the stash too. Picked up the Inside The Armour detail set for it as well. Unfortunately the owner is getting out of the detail kit business by year end to concentrate on the book side of his operation. The crewman in mine has a chip out of his helmet that I will have to repair.

Cheers,
Rich

That should be easy to fix.

Great price from an Ebay seller. It even comes with an M50 turret. I have heard the M50 turret has issues. :idonno

Nice one Chad! I'm still waiting for them to shrink that down to 1/72 scale. They did shrink all their other Shermans, why not this one? Have fun with that one.

Thanks Mark. What is odd is,Bison has a 1/72 decal set for the M51. But yet,I do not know of anyone who makes a 1/72 M51. :idonno

I know. I'm glad it's out there, and I have a copy of that Bison sheet. Nobody does make a 1/72 scale M-51, but Corporal Overby's Motor Pool has a resin conversion set for the Dragon HVSS Shermans. I have the conversion set, but no Dragon HVSS Sherman to use to make this model. Still looking. I've already done Cpl Overby's M-50 tank; he does a magnificent job on his resin sets.

I went over to my FLHS after work last friday and found something interesting stuck in with the scifi kits. Yeah, I wonder why they put these there, anyway since I had been considering picking them up and most places were still on pre-order basis I grabbed them and did a quick pay.

This is almost going to be a mini review, so if Bob wants to do an edit and quick move of photos that is fine by me.

Here's the girls. (Yeah you read that right now click the e-mail linky)

They are definitely much bigger than the 1/35th scale versions and the detail is fairly crisp. Some smoothing work is going to be needed as the surfaces of legs, arms, backs and other places that are supposed to be smooth and not have little jaggys aren't that smooth. Nothing major and nothing that "just has to be fixed", but if you fix the base, the paint works better.

The only real things I found that were show stoppers were with Betty (Figure #2) and the flag. The 1/35 scale flag has the curret 50 star flag but that flag is wrong for WW2 and Korea. WW2 pin-ups should have 48 star flags. I can forgive MB on this as they are Ukranian and I don't think they realize that little detail. The material the flag is painted on though is really thick. Absolutely no way it would ever work for anything but a bill board. The flag staff is too short as well. No way the flag would ever fit between the hand and the top. Might as well make a lot longer staff and a decent sized flag.

Overall the figs are as good as could be expected and will be very easy to work with. Some options for hair and "army boots" might have been a good idea and would have been easy to have added.

Only thing I am not sure on is the weapon that Alice (The Army Gal) has. I have to plead "The Schultz" in that I "Know Nothink!" about it. It is very crisply molded and could be changed to another weapon in 1/24 scale if you wanted to do so.

Got a new set of magnifiers in the mail yesterday and I really like them. Multiple lenses and a nice led light. The have regular arms like glasses or as I have it set up an elastic head band. Got them for a good price from Amazon.ca. Come in a nice felt bag also to keep it all together.

Nice score James! I like it.

Paul, that is an excellent review. They may not be in my chosen scale, but I will be seriously considering getting these models. SAs for Alice's weapon, I'm thinking it's an M-1 carbine with a folding stock as used by OSS or other special forces. It's interesting they didn't give her an M-1 Garand which was the weapon of the day in WWII.

Very nice score thar James!! What's the magnification on them? I can almost read the writing in the 1st pic!! :hmmm (y) :coolio

Mark, The M-1 Garrand was weapon of choice in WWII & if I recall, the Paratroopers & Marine Raiders preferred the folding stock carbines.
