Just awful....when kits go wrong.

I got a 1/48 Trumpeter Hind for Christmas last year, wasn't really impressed with it, but it is a Hind. Somehow I managed to sit on the canopy, can't get a replacement, so I bought the 1/48 Hobby boss D/V Hind, as this was closer to the model that I wanted.
The kit is most certainly old moldings, the cockpit is awful and looks like a child's toy, so I had the bright idea of combining the two kits, kind of a franken Hind...
The wigs and the landing gear replaced, the engine cowlings that wouldn't fit was also replaced. It certainly was an exercise in patience and engineering, this is the first time I have actually kit bashed something, it was ............ interesting!

Love this as it is what I would do. Any photos? Both Trumpeter and its sister company (Hobby Boss) have awful decals. I ask since I am only familiar with the Monogram Hind (one of the only times I sent references, along with Piotr Butowski to an American model company).

I'm rather embarrassed for my peers to see unfinished let alone mediocre work. but since you asked nicely LOL

Image one, the Trumpeter engine bay, number two, intakes are hobby boss, number three, other side of engine bay, number four wing replacement, trumpeter wings and the flare holders from trumpeter, number five, it is just cute...LOL

I think this is the old Monogram kit, I use the Begemont decals or Star decals.

What you are doing is the basis for reaching for the outlandish and challenging builds. It takes practice and in some cases a fair amount of planning when attempting something special. Keep going for it! You got this!

=============

I have the double Zvezda/Eduard 1/72 double kit and the 1/35th scale Trumpeter Mil24V (export Hind) kits. The Zvezda kits in 1/72 and 1/48th are supposed to be very nice and the 1/72 double kit I have that was reboxed with extra Eduard goodies does look really nice.
What I really want to do is this Hungarian version, but have not reached the point where I feel comfortable trying to do the paint work.

Yeah, just a little over the top. Eduard, late last year released a 1/48th Zvezda Hind with the Alien paint job.

It was an expensive limited edition with the whole thing covered with decals. I think if I saw that coming at me over a hill it would be go hide time.

We can't get Zvezda kits in Australia (thanks to our anal wankers in charge). I have a one of my boys going to Turkey next month and have charged him with getting the 1/48 Zvezda Mi-35 and Mi-1, we have a heap of problems getting anything Russian here, I have to order from China!

LOL now my spare airbrush has gone tits up....what next!
No I still haven't found the trigger for the other one!

Yours does not look like the Monogram kit or clone. Click name to see instructions and compare to your kits. Monogram's was quite accurate at the time, only missing the fuselage twist, but most kits don't have it. It would be my second choice after Zvezda. Just keep in mind that the molds do show their age. Hobby Boss doesn't have the Hind in 48th scale but another of the Trumpeter companies did; Mini Hobby. Their first release was very simplified. Is this the contents of your kit? Later on, MiniHobby copied the Monogram kit to make versions Monogram/Revell didn't release, like the Mi-24P. This one DOES look like the Monogram kit but I never had it at hand to check one against the other. Click the hyperlink to see the instructions and compare to Monogram's kit. Trumpeter's Mi-24 was all new in 2021. It does look good. Again, I don't have this kit, nor Zvezda's to compare. You may have much better luck getting it in the Eduard boxings of which there are several.

The Mi-24 is important to me with all the sharkmouth schemes out there, not including the crazy ones that Paul (@Heavens Eagle) posted.
Actually, an Mi-25 (export version) from the Ivory Coast.

I might get the Mi-24P for this Peruvian Mi-35P example.

My apologies, it is a "mini hobby" kit. The cockpit is very toy like, but no one will see the kit so I just added a few things out of the scrap box.
The Hind H from Trumpeter has a nice cockpit, the fit is bad once again over the engine covers, and the guns don't fit well.
Spent most of last night trying to get the old brush spraying again, otherwise I will have to ask the wife for a new one, fingers crossed.....
One of my boy's is going to Turkey in a couple of weeks and will pick up the 1/48 Zvezda kits there and bring them back to Tasmania.

I liked your 1/35th scale build. Don't knock building a so-so kit. It gives experience that pays off when working on a very expensive kit. It is possible to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. Doesn't have to be perfect, but it has to be perfect for you alone.

Yeah, I hear you cobber!
Aircraft are not my strong point, I'm mostly a vehicle builder, but I have a real soft spot for helicopters and I adore the Hind, I got to fly in one in Serbia/Bosnia a couple of times........LOL what I would give to own one or maybe a KA-52 Alligator LOL

Trumpeter is supposed to be doing a 1/35th Ka-52, so that is something to look forward to. I also picked up their Kamov naval helicopter with the double rotors.
Damn! that 1/35th Hind looks just as good up close!

As you've seen in real life they all get weathered up the same for the most part. I don't know why we have weathering for aircraft and weathering for armor. It's weathering in general.
Of course my dirty birds never get an award.
