Hutchinson Kansas Naval Air Station

Sherman 18

Master at Arms
Been hanging out at part of this old place the past 14 weeks. The Hutchinson Naval Air Station, built in WWII for training

One night the police chief from Hollrood KS and I walked over and I happened to take the camera. Not much really to see but
I thought with some of people doing the 2111 build could use the pictures for ideas.
Part of it is used by some glider guys and one crop duster, part of the old run ways are used by KU's KLETC for driving course
Some of it seems to be someones private junk pile.

As soon as I find what I did with the pictures I found of the base in WWII I will put them up

Good pictures Jeff, looks like they had a nice little pool at one time. Kansas...Navy...Kansas...Navy..hm. don't compute.

:mpup

Looks like some relativly modern stuff, AC in the window, the roll up doors. When was it shut down?

It was closed in 1945 or 46. Then reopened in 1951 or 52 and then closed in 1969.

Yeah Kansas and Navy does make you think. Another funny part is the base was built on Amish farms. Still a lot of Amish around that part of
Kansas.
