Hasegawa 1/72 Ki-67 Hiryu ("Peggy") - an attempt..

Hello Folks,

So, now she is all dolled up and has nowhere to go. Decals are settling in nicely, so while I wait to dirty her up a bit later in the week, a few pics for you. Quite happy with the aerials, turned out also good.

Cheers everyone

Alex

I could DEFINITELY build one of these. Can we have a 'Bomber' campaign next year, just to force me in to buying/building one ??

Hi everyone,

So the beast is ready. As usual I think I have screwed up in the finishing but not as badly as in previous models. I think I maybe overdid in the micropainting. I was able to get the aerials and the little underside opening in the glassy cone without much fuss, and the ventral access ladder was also scratch-built. Here she is, accompanied by a Hasegawa 1/72 Mitsubishi A6M5c from the carrier Zuikaku.

I am looking forward to your suggestions on how to do better in the future. Next I think will be a Nakajima B5N2 Kate or maybe an Aichi D3A1 Val.

Thanks again for looking

Cheers

Alex

Looks great to me. Only suggestion I would have is to wash some of the chipping so to make it blend in a bit more. Some chipping would be older than the other and would collect dirt and stuff. Fine job! :notworthy

Looks good to me, (y) (y) I agree with Bob on blending the chipping. That said I have yet to master the art myself or produced it to my full satisfaction, not that I haven't tried

Thanks. That is a good idea, to wash the chipping. Should I use the same dirt wash used for the postshading? Never did that before, it is absolutely worth trying. Thanks for the tip!

The torpedo is really crooked, but there was no way to adapt it with the access panel that I have installed. Apparently if the torpedo was installed in the real plane no crew could access it from the bottom!

I will try the wash and post some more pictures next week (out of the country in a congress until next week).

I just wanted to say that I really appreciate your patience and suggestions. I have mostly avoided these forums (or left some of them) due to the rather unfriendly atmosphere. Thanks to you all this has become a great source for learning in the hobby. I really appreciate that! And thanks Dave for bringing me here!

Cheers all,

Alex

Yes I would use the same wash but vary it a bit. Some chip spots would be worse than others. :popcorn

Travel safe! :drinks

I like it. The chipping effect is well done for an aircraft serving on an island where dirt and coral would fly up and chip the aircraft's paint. As others mentioned, do a wash on some of the chipping to show older chips along with newer ones. The Zuikaku escort would not normally be chipped as much due to it serving on a carrier, but it looks excellent for an aircraft that served from an island base. Perhaps it had to make an emergency stop or something on an island and has yet to make it back to the carrier for repaint.

Mornin' Alex
You definitely have all the skills you need to build a good model, like the guys have said, you might try and either tone-down the paint peeling, or use a less bright metal colour - not sure where you call home, but if you can get Humbrol enamels, the H56 'Aluminium' would be a good start. Having said that if you're going to do an early 'Kate' or 'Val' you won't need to weather them too hard anyways.

The next thing to try, would be to gloss your finished model before you decal it, the decals will sit much better on a smooth glossy surface, and not stand as proud. Then finish-off with an overall satin or matt coat.

That's all that comes to mind just now, but I have to say (again), I love the look of this aircraft, definitely one that I never even considered before your build, so thanks for that !!

Ian.
