Hasegawa 1/72 F9F Panther

You know, I was going by the size of the barrels that I removed without thinking to check if they were in scale themselves. I can't find the outer diameter of the AN/M2 20mm barrel, but 20mm in 1/72 is .27mm. The tubes I had in were .9mm, so yes, those will be too big. I have .5mm on hand, so I'll use those. I also see now that the kit had them sticking out way too far.

Thanks for pointing that out!
Go with the Big Guns!! Bugger all Bridges of Toko-Ri!!

You simply have to ask...

The dimensions shown here are for 1/20th scale so multiply by 79% for full size or 11% for 72nd scale in inches. The perforated barrel sheath would be .025 inch ( 0.6mm) in 72nd scale.

Ah sir, but that is the M2 in .50 cal. The F9F had the M2 20mm. I know, there's so many wildly different pieces of equipment designated M1, M2, M3, etc. in the US military it's a little absurd

Sir, You illustration is that of an M2 .50 cal. Do you have this diagram for the Mk.3 20mm?
Oh boy! Not again! I need to pay closer attention and yes, I do have that information as I needed it for my A-20G-1-DO. The Hispano 20mm HS.404 cannon was licensed as the M2. So, now I need to see what barrel type is used on the Panther. I will grab this book to look it up. Be right back, need to prepare a breakfast for the woman of the house as my son is still sleeping and forgets his duty on Mother's Day!

Paint's on! I started with black primer and then a coat of dull aluminum because I was afraid leaving it black would make the dark blue just too dark. It may have also had the benefit that I got no peeling at all from the masking, which I almost always got before with Vallejo.

Now for some touch-up, gloss coat, and decals.

It is Mother's Day so please be patient. In the meantime, this might be of interest...

Using this as a guide, in 1/72nd scale, the muzzle break assembly is 0.44mm at the thinner part and 0.57mm at the thicker part:

I gave all most all my Vallejo away because of this and I haven't looked back. Except for some of the model colors that I had to resupply.
Like the idea of some metal coat under the base. Really neat idea.

Like I said on Sauls photos, there's a bridge quivering in fear somewhere in Korea! :plane

She looks quite Panther-ish in Blue. Bravo Charles!
You have redeemed your reputation, Sr. Garcia. I have a TM9-229 around here somewhere, I just didn't think of it.
