Glencoe 1/330 K-type Blimp

Everybody needs a blimp, right? This is an old chestnut first released by ITC in 1957. The fit really wasn't that bad but needing a silver finish added to the work. I built it in between other builds during the latter part of the year and did the final touches this week. The base is just a shaped pine sheet from Michaels, stained and clear coated, with a sheet of Scenic Materials grass glued on. Holes were drilled in the base to make a slot for the metal bar that runs up through the mast and into the nose of the blimp. The bar and the wheel were CA'd to the base while the rest of the parts were attached with canopy glue. A real modeler would have submerged the base for the figures in the grass but I have no such pretensions here. It will probably be the model in the display cases that gets the first attention given the subject and the fact that it is shiny.

The last photo is of a formation of smaller training blimps from Moffett Field. There had to be some bad language involved in getting these things lined up that well!

How Fun, nice job John. I had the Hindenburg way back in the day. I flew out of San Jose a couple of times and could see those hangers at Moffett, wish I had time on that trip to go to that museum. Well done!
