GERMAN RECCE TANK

Thanks for your kind replies friends!:)

The mud was done using:Alabastine [a plaster similar to Porion what Francois Verlinden used a lot back in the old days], real soil from the forrest,a bit of sand, pigments from MIG and other brands and ...used coffee grounds.
[why not use coffee in the mixture:lol: ]

I am planning to do some groundwork for my tankie, using also 'my coffee mixture'.[but that is for later on].

Greetings,Ron.

Hey Tim and everybody else,
I do take long coffee-breaks,don't I?:D

In fact I am not able to shoot some pictures at the time,I am waiting for some good daylight because inside pics. are just lousy with the camera I am using at the moment inside the house, have to do it outside.
That and the fact that I can only shoot pics in the weekend,on a normal working day it is too dark when I get home.

Please wait some more,...and I will return with my recce tankie!

Meanwhile some coffee-break music.[love it or hate it]

Hey Ron! I guess I missed this the first time around, but WOW, I really like what you've done!! Can't wait for the update!! (y)

Hi,everybody
Had some troubles but.....I am back on track.:)

Here you see the Friultracks.
some how I managed to add 1 track too many, and I CA-glued them,so I used debonder a drill and cutters, before I could get rid of the extra tracklink....what a waste of precious time!:(

tracks_1.jpg

Painting the tracks:Using Tamiya paints thinned with lacquerthinner to get the basic track colour.
I have used Humbrol scenic track colour in the past but I think it is no longer in production.[please correct me if I am wrong].

tracks_2.jpg

Gave my tracks a rusty ready to use MIG wash and used a graphite pencil on the trackparts that make contact with the ground.

tracks_3.jpg

Using the pencil and graphite powder applied with cottonswabs I gave the inside where the roadwheels make contact with the tracks a treatment, so it looks like polished steel.[no much rust there!]
When the tracks are fitted you will not see much of this.[.....but it is nice to know it's there,in my opinion]

tracks_5.jpg

Ofcourse you could sand away the paint, but the steel would look a bit brighter...it's a question of taste I guess.:idonno :)

My stash of pigments for soil/mud and dust and some other stuff I use for it.
The plastic bags are containing 2 kinds of real soil.

tracks_6.jpg

Together with coffee grounds and white glue I will give the tracks a treatment with this stuff.

That's it for now....I hope I will be able to post new stuff sooner then I did this time...but you know life can be a female dog.:D

Greetings,Ron.[who is glad to be back]

Hi everybody,
Here some spare tracks work;

First I wanted to be my spare tracks made brand new,..after maintance they gave my recce tank spare tracks right out of the productionplant,
So I gave them a flat black base coat and then a very thin coat of Humbrol metal coat Gunmetal 27004 and polished it very light......very light otherwise you get them as very shiny polished metal, and that was not where I am going for....

But I had a change of plans.
You often see in wartime photo's,spare track links made up from new tracks, old rusty tracks and tracks that are painted in the tanks base colour,'Panzer Yellow'in this case.

So I gave them a treatment.....

Hope you like it so far, next time a little work on the vehicle it self...[if I got some available time...]

Greetings,Ron.

Hi friends,
Got time to take pictures today outside...So here we go again....

The right side

1.jpg

The left side[bad pic.]and some cheap Dutch exportbeer[Mrs.Recons stash]

2.jpg

The wooden jackblock[is that correct Enghlish?]
Used vallejo paint for the wood, some light washes.
And again Humbrol Metalcoat 27003 for the metal.

3.jpg

Someone didn't clean the shovel,...done with a pigment and coffeegrounds mixture.

4.jpg

Weathered frontside.
Still have to do some paintpatch up.
And yes still have to remove te piece of paper from the driversvissionblock...

5.jpg

More tools...done with...the same stuff as for the jackblock.
You know the drill by now,I guess.

6.jpg

Back side,..The dust/mud is going to be more dark[that's for later].
The cable will get darker also[later].
In real life the cable was fixed with straps on the round plate. My reccetankiecrew lost there straps.
Sometimes crews with experience hang there cables on the hooks on the back or frontside of the tank,to win some time if they had to be towed away in case of troubles.
[My crew are veterans!]

7.jpg

Another look at the weathered wheels, the camouflagepaint still a bit vissable...

8.jpg

And a heavy weathered enginedeck.

9.jpg

More to come....I am really not ready yet,
Have to tone down the bright metal colour on the sprockets and MANY other things...
Thanks for looking.............I will come back...:woohoo:

Greetings,Ron.
