Having slightly depressed myself with the way the miniArt Grant turned out i thought i would go the whole hog , give myself a nervous brake down and try some figures . I did have a go a while back and it was a disaster but in fairness the figures were tamiya and had they been real people i doubt they would have been allowed out in daylight. To that end what are the best mouldings for figures ? Preferably allied at this time ?

Yes Alpine Minatures are pretty nice.
Master box and Miniart also make dome nice sets

With the plastic kits, the hands and heads can be soft in detail although they are improving. There are several resin figure makers that market replacement sets. For resin figures there are a couple of UK suppliers, Sovereign 2000, SK Miniatures, although the web site is being rebuilt, Fields Of Glory Models and Friendship Models, also in the process of updating their website.

Thanks for the suggestion , alpine are new to me but they are available in England but very expensive. I think because this is practice i will go for the mini art figures which are twice as many for half the price. If i order them now they will be here later today. I will update later..

Blimey, amazon are getting frighteningly good now. Figures were just delivered less than 10 hours.

There is a reason they cost more. Better sculpts are easier to paint. Better to buy just a few good figures... quality over quantity... IMHO.

You could also get Hornet heads for the Miniart figs. I certainly have done that many times!

Agree you get what you pay for in most cases but at this stage my skills probably dont warrant paying to much. Just waiting now for the retarder from MIG. that your thread inspired me to get. One if the real problems for me in the past has been when using a small brush on small items the paint dry's on the brush before you can apply, particularly acrylics like Tamiya. It just drags an doesnt blend.

@paddy, get yourself some Hornet heads. Practice on them and remove the paint when unhappy. Resin isn't as sensitive as plastic to the removal of paint. When it turns out nicely, you have a head to add to a plastic (or resin) figure. My issue with ALL figure sets, regardless of brand, is that most seem to have a particular model and then all seem like twins, quadruplets, et cetera. This is one reason to swap heads on resin figures. Another is to approximate a specific crew (if following a photo or a particular region).

Just by comparison here are a couple of MiniArt and a couple of Bronco chaps.

Allowing for my dubious photography the the Bronco have a much finer grain and smoother finish but in fairness all these guys do look like humans The first Miniart guy appears to have a moustache which i would think would be a challenge not to be as Baldrick would say, is that slug under your nose ?

Hornet heads. Really we are not trying to steer you wrong, These are FAR superior and will be easier to paint which will give you more confidence later...

I agree they are a lot better but i have googled them and they are not available in England and at the moment importing stuff is very slow and expensive as we find our way outside of the European union. Their E-bay web site ships from Australia but i will keep looking. that said i really appreciate all the input.

thanks for that, yes you are right and they have what i want and cheaper than anyone else as well. Not sure why they didn't turn up on my Google search, maybe i was being a bit to specific. I have a business website and on some search engines i am at the top and on others i dont figure at all.

@paddy, I am NOT pushing you to get them. Simply pointing out that, as John stated, they are made in England and I buy directly from Roger Saunders but are available from Historex Agents.
