I hope to find some benchtime in the near future.

Greetings,Ron.

I'm already doing one in my Campaign Thread. I wouldn't be able to participate in this one if it does happen. I hope you get some bench time soon, I've missed your excellent work.

I'd fancy just about any build right about now, but this was some awesome footage to watch. Thanks for sharing!

I hope you get back to the bench soon, Ron, one of us has to do it. B)

It's much more yellow than I would have thought. :hmmm

With this restoration project they used a thick layer of new paint,so it's not really weathered by the elements now, additional camo colors would alter it's look as well.

Would like to see more StuH's in this campaign.
(thanks for the support guys!)

Happy Easter to all of you!
Greetings,Ron.

Well, I saw that Dragon had three kits for the StuG IV (Early, Late, & Last). None really match the photo but the late kit (the same Tony Lee posted as his entry) is closest.

As usual, I did quite a bit of research and there is plenty of work to do. I created an Excel file with frozen panes to help me know what details will be needed for a particular month's production. You may need a Live/Hotmail account. I don't know. It seems I am looking at a June 1944 production from before the remote MG was delivered but after the upper hull was modified for it. Click the link, it may work for you.

Regards,

Saul we can put that excel file in our document folder on the server. Emaill it to me and I'll ftp it and update your link.

Thanks Saul

I'm not done yet. The Excel sheet is based on first hand documentation for the StuG III and the PzKpfw IV (Panzer Tracts in both cases as I found errors in the Hostory Biz StuG books). However, I have yet to find a photo of a late StuG IV with a topfblende having an open coaxial MG port. The closest was one with a plugged port. Also, I have not seen one with the mesh type skirts. Dragon includes swinging skirts in the their 'Last' StuG IV but I have photos showing these types of skirts on the rails with triangular teeth (in productions since June 1944).

Regards,

I've written to several people who are well versed with the StuG IV as well as the photograph's owner last Wednesday but no word from them yet. The purpose was to bounce an idea on how to identify the first thirty StuG IV built by their Zimmerit pattern and the fact that Alkett (who assembled the rest, 1111 units, of the 1141 built) used the raised dot pattern tread plate as usually seen on their StuG III for the mudguards.

Here are two examples found in Poland showing the tread plate on the un-restored fenders:

If I hear from them, I will update the Excel sheet and make it visible.

The ET fenders I bought incorrectly (for my version as they are correct for the first 30 built by Krupp) has the herringbone pattern usually seen on the PzKpfw IV.

Regards,

I only noticed this campaign just this last week. Dug through my stash boxes and came up with this old thing.

Since I have not built any armor in a very long time I also dug out this and started on it this weekend. Something quick and small.

I think fo simplicity I will just post them both under the same thread. What do you think? :D

I'd say go for it. Have fun with this campaign. I am about to finish mine with one of my models at least....

Paul post them on your thread, that way we don't end up posting the same message on multiple threads. This thread was for gauging the interest to start with.
