Re: DML JSU-122 White Russian.....

Hmmm... :hmmm I think I like it. I don't like it on the tracks or wheel treads, but I don't know
what your plans are there...obviously you're not done. Are you going to scrub any of it off to bare green paint?

Looking forward to more!
Tom

Well there is one pic in the Concord book ( Stalin's Heavy Tanks - 1941/45 ) of two of these
bad boys in the snow with heavy whitewash. It's the only pic of these with the heavy whitewash.
After the initial dry brush session, it has a good bit of green bleeding through. Since these
shots were taken I've given the casemate another hit with a slightly thicker wash. Figured I'd
stick to Cold Steel theme and keep more white on it.
As for the tracks and running gear, they need to get weathered out and caked with snow. What
you see on them now is dust from brushing out the sides and wheels.

Mike

Dear Mike.

...great whitewash finishing !...try now, some filters and washings...it´s my idea!

Best!

Luiz.

Steady midnight shift last month has limited the bench time, but I'm back in saddle.
I gave this beast a light coat of Model Master Acryl flat clear. As I sprayed, the whitewash
started to clear  ,but as it dried it whitened back up. Added more white to the
fighting compartment and then brushed it out.

Move away from the chalk and start the base. Also cleaned the chalk dust from the tracks and toyed
a bit with washes and stains.

Rough the smooth surface with a suede brush.

As always, your thoughts.......

Working on the base - stained oak trim to frame the foam. Sanding and contouring the
foam and added a coat of sculptamold. This stuff takes forever to dry. Put it on at
10am and its still damp 14 hours later. Nuts! Pics to follow.

The foam board is 1 inch styrofoam insulation from your friendly neighborhood
building supply store. ( Lowes, Home Depot, etc.)
About $12.00 for a 4' x 8' sheet.
Let's see....cheap, enough for plenty of bases, easy to carve, sand, paint.
Light weight, doesn't warp like plywood.
Think - stacked and glued - carve out trenches-foxholes-etc.

Mike B)

Carved out the base, brushed on some white acrylic craft paint.

Coated with sculptamold. - (its a plaster/fiber mix)

Sanded the rough spots, added a layer of spackling smoothed with water.

Cut the grass.........

DSC01052_JPG-r.jpg

Added another layer of spackling and 'planted the grass' sparingly. Just some popping
throught the snow and pressed in some track prints.

Spayed the whole thing down with a coat of Woodland Scenics cement (thinned white glue)and
sprinkled on the snow, about a foot above. I used three coats of this stuff. Drove the 122
into position.
