Der Rote Kampfflieger

Looks fantastic so far! As for lost parts like that; it is the number one reason I have kits take so long to be finished. The second reason is lost decals followed by lost instructions.... :facepalm

The Barron is going into holding pattern for a bit. Just ordered $50 worth of Bob's Buckles eyelets, think I can cut the brass tubing I need. Not using Gaspatch buckles this time.

I think your paint job came out just dandy. Did you get the decale film worked out?
:v

Who’s do you like better and why?

Well...Gaspatch makes nice turnbuckles, they look correct with the tapered barrel but they are expensive and I question the size. James pointed out a long time ago that the 1:48 scale ones look more to scale than the 1:32.

With the ones from Bob's Buckles you have more variety in how you build them up. Using the thinner tubes they don't stand out as much.

I can't say i like one over the other, just going the cheaper route this time. :hmmm

Bob's Buckles...I could probably do them better today.

You can see the difference in Bob's Buckles and Gaspatch turnbuckles.

And a reference photos

I'm going to make the anchors from Bob's Buckles and use the Gaspatch for the actual turnbuckles. Building the lines up prior to installing.

B) :notworthy work of art MP.
That engine finish is amazing and it takes real courage to do a red filter spay over a perfectly good wood finish with decals (even if it is what the Baron did).
Beautiful. :good: :popcorn

Ian.

I wonder if the mechanikers of Jasta 11 sprayed their Officers airplanes, or brushed the paint on? :hmmm
What a cool Model! (y) :drinks

I gave that a lot of thought also, there some photos that suggest it was brush painted and not all at one time. BUT I didn't want to even attempt to replicate brushing it.

Almost 3 months of sitting there's some maintenance to be done. OK, it was a gap under here that I really turned a blind eye to.

Dr Mikes' CA and filler.

I drilled out the shell ejection ports and will replace with some brass.

Starting installing eyelets up top. Seeing in some build videos how guys are doing most of the painting, installing eyelets and turnbuckles before construction, gee, who would have thunk... :facepalm
