Das Werk 7.5cm Pak 40 in 1/16th scale

As I have a number of these 1/16th kits now, and Tim has tweaked my "want" to build one, I am starting with the Pak 40 kit to go with the Sd.Kfz 251/1 kit I have. This should give me a feel for the Das Werk kits how they fit and build up.

Have started on this and the parts fit so far is quite good, though as it is really quite close to scale in many ways, the assembly is a little fiddley. So I am building it in small chunks. Minimal paint at this point, just parts assembly.
I have photos from a good walk around on one that I am using for parts look, placement, and detail reference (not for paint). More in a few.

I am going to be quite busy tomorrow so here is a quick upload to whet your interests.

To be honest, I am fairly impressed with the kit. It seems well thought out though I probably would have done some things a bit different.

Yeah this is going to be a big beastie, but as I have stated it seems to be quite detailed and thought out. The reference photos are of a restored Pak 40 and the colors are to be questioned, but the detail for parts and how they look and assembly are excellent for this build. Paint will be a different story.

Its kind of disappointing that they didnt give spacer bolts for the shields. Its done in 1/35 so should have looked even better in 1/16. My Hobby Shop of choice just got one in and I'm waffling on buying it. Watching your build with interest.

Luckily, they are quite easy to do with brass or styrene tubing...

I assembling this I am slowly learning about how this thing fits together and works. Have one minor fubar that I probably can't go back and fix. The instructions show the parts and "kind of" where they go. The photos I have of a restored unit are helping a LOT, but it still is a bit of a hassle trying to get all the parts and levers just right. Still assembling things in sub assemblies and learning what is supposed to move and what doesn't is challenging.
Overall parts fit is an average of 8. This is not due to fit of parts so much as some lack of info/detail in the instruction sheets.

Looking very nice so far. That's going to be an impressive display hooked to the 251.
Yeah Tim it should be out of the park. The 251 kits are loaded full up, but I have done a LOT more research on them and have said material on hand. The Pak 40 is a lot less complex, but I have less info so a bit more challenging due to lack of info. It is a good median test build to get the hang of Das Werk and how they build up. There are two muzzel brakes (mid war and Late war), and 3 wheel types, so I will need to find a photo reference to use in order to get this built to the right version.

Yes, I'm getting familiar with that sort of thing with the Takom/Das Werk stuff. I messed up with the jack clamps on the Panzer I build because the instructions weren't clear. Oh well...it keeps things interesting!
