Color WWII photos ...............

Cheyenne

Moderator
Laura and I were talking about color WWII pics. the other day and I though , .... why not start a thread with color pics.

About color WWII pics.

First off this is not meant to be a debate over the pics. posted [ by me or future pics. added by the membership ] as to weather or not the colorized pics. are versions of b/w pics.

There are a lot of these b/w pics. out there that have been colorized .
I would really like to not have these posted .
The reason being , ........ it's hard enough to use REAL color pics. as refs. due to fading , different film types at the time etc .

The next three pics. will better explain what I mean , ......... I do believe this pic. started out as a b/w .

picture201.jpg

An interesting thing I found when researching my color pics. was that a lot of well known pics. I had in b/w were actually color ones .
This was due to books , magazines and publications in pre computer days , taking color pics. and copying them in b/w for publication , ...... cheaper .

These are all pics. I have saved over the internet years of what I believe to be actual color WWII pics.
Yes some of them have watermarks etc. , but these are to be looked at and used for modeling refs. not monetary gain .

The pics. I will be posting are in no particular order , ........ just don't have the time .
There are tanks , Allied and Axis , planes , naval etc.

Cheyenne,

Your collection seems identical to mine! We must spend a lot of time on the same web sites and ebay auctions.

Some pointers;

T-34-85-colour-px800.jpg

This is a post war Polish T-34. Without getting too specific in the details, it has the diamond shaped checkerboard insignia on the turret cheeks.

Museum example here... I noticed you did point that out when known.

80864800swEtBq_ph.jpg

This is a G-13, post war development of the Jagdpanzer 38 for the Swiss. This example is photographed in Texas before it was 'converted' to a WWII era Jagdpanzer 38. The owner had a web site about it and the actual Sd.Kfz. 251 Ausf. C they received (no idea if they own it though) from Aberdeen Proving Ground.

Regards,

Thanks Saul , ..... yeah I noticed a few mistakes on some others also , ........ I culled these out of my files , .......... which are totally unorganized  , and also include colorized pics. ....... so it was a bit of a bear getting who ,what , where and when correct .

I noticed a 155 gun [ I believe ] with some GI's sitting around it that is definitely a colorized pic ., .......... oops .

Some of these also look like screen captures from video. you can see the digital scan lines in some of them. But still..amazing collection. Thanks, I'm going to try and grab these images and hook them up on our gallery.

let me know when your new mailaddress is set up and i resend the mails with my collection to you glenn! this time the pics won't be filtered out!

some of mine you have already like i noticed! some not!

maybe i scan some colorpics from a book i have and post them! remember the pic with the dead german soldier in the mud i sent to you earlier this year? i'm taking into consideration to post that pic here!

I don't think there will be any hassles over the pic. you sent me , ..... it's not gore , just a fact of war , ....... you and I and the rest of the membership have more than likely seen worse .

What's the worst that can happen if someone complains , we take it down .

I repeat though it's not a horrible pic.

Great stuff Glenn. There are many I have seen, and then there are those with Germans in them ;)
Brad

P.S. Is that monkey sitting on the nose of the P51 (?) stealing the pilot's cell?! :hmmm

What's the worst that can happen if someone complains , we take it down .

the one complaing would have to deal with me and my mood isn't the best lately = once uploaded the pic won't be taken down again!

here's the pic:

ww2colorpicdeadsoldier_1_20101129_1505687134.jpg

'cross of iron' was my first association when i saw that pic in one of my books! plenty of more color pics in it!

Splendid array of pictures, Glenn!

This collection you posted really does depict war in many of it's aspects - sure makes me wonder if I'd ever volunteer for a tank outfit...

You can be sure that many of us here at MA will use them as reference for our builds and for that I thank you!

Cheers! B)
