Big Freeze

Snow! Whats that.......this is so different to my world down here. We had a 45C today (113F). Outside was like an oven. Some towns in the north of the state had nearly 49C (120.2 F).

Just did a grocery store run. There were cars out running up and down the main street 3 houses away from me and my Sienna does really good on this stuff with the Yokohama tires on it. So, bright sun shine, off I went.
First off the hard crust on the roads is HARD! No breaking through, it is frozen solid. Barely makes a slight tire mark on the surface. Lumpy as can be and NOT melting. Decent traction so no problem going or stopping, just have to take it slow and "plan ahead" which is normal for this stuff in Oklahoma. The parking lot was just as hard. No breaking through the crust. So most likely another day or two until it hits 40 and starts breaking down.
Good thing I have plenty to keep me busy.

Sounds like back in ND, during winter we didn't drive on pavement, just the packed ice that had sand on top of it. By the time spring thaw came the roads were rutted like the Oregon trail.

We are still in the single digits with negative Real Feel... I'm starting to feel like I am back in Plattsburgh with all the cold!

Summer is coming!

Looks sucky down south. Here we're getting toasty warm, is only -12 right now. Better than the -40s. And more snow, yee haw.

Yeah we are still dealing with frozen streets. Had to get out to pre-op appointment this morning and only the MOST used MAIN roads had worn ruts in them and those were not that good. All the other roads were white packed ice still. Toyota van with Yokohama tires did really well on this crap (which I knew it would. Only had a couple of times where the traction control kicked on me when trying to start off. The rest of it was watching the idiots drive too fast and pickups slide all over the place.

The frozen hard roads around here finally turned to slush late this afternoon. I had to help a neighbor get his Camaro out of the middle of the road in front of the house. TIERES!!!! Yeah his tires work great on dry pavement and so-so on wet, but with the slush, any build up and they would just spin. I got him over to the curb where he wanted to park, and it should be safe there. Might not be able to move in the morning though. :bm:

Wrong tires and car for this crap.

On the other hand I made it easily to my pre-op appt this morning using my Toyota Sienna no problemo. I have driven it in crap before and it does quite well with the Yokohama tires on it.

Have to go back to work tomorrow, but it should be a short day. Be in by 10 and leave about 4 PM which gets me home before dark. I can do that.
