I know you Canadians are LOL at this, it's old game for you.
We in the US are facing a winter storm warning that has people scrambling, including me.

Since the hurricane last year I have been getting more prepared for service interruption. I have a gas range now so I can cook without going out side in case of power failure. I got a pretty well stocked freezer and gas generator. I got my electrician coming over to install service port for 220 30amp power off the generator and actually have a new generator on the way. I have to return the one I had (long story involving inlaws). My electrician tells me the unit I'm getting should run the house if I don't use high energy appliances. I'm hoping these all ends up a dud but you have to prepare for the worse.

I'm reading that grocery store shelves are empty and I've seen lines of folks waiting to get their propane tanks filled.

What about y'all?
 
We too are in the bull's eye of the ice storm. No generator in an all electric house. We do have an outside gas grill. Stocked up on bread and milk no beer. Here's hoping for the best that they over predicted the storm. Gary S.
 
Well, we New Yorkers have to look cool no matter what so, if you start to slip, don't break a hip just start dancing!

Old OKie here in Tennessee. We would see ice storms with 1/2 to 3/4 inch of ice. Go to work. Two to four maybe six inches of snow, go to work. Here in TN 2 inches of snow EVERYONE stays home. (fine by me) First couple of storms here I would get out and drive around. The second time there was some dumb ass that was riding my bumper and I said "not worth it". Stupid people here have no sense and can't drive well when it is dry and sunny. Forget that when it is wet.

Also this week I have been out since Tuesday with bad cold. First two days was a zombie bad sinus headaches and just wanted to sleep. Slept 20 hours Monday night and Tuesday. Wednesday slept about 14. Last night could only sleep about the normal 8. Woke up this morning and felt SO MUCH BETTER though I still have a cough, some sinus crap and a 100 degree fever. Boss said stay home. OhKay, will do, looks like some build time this afternoon. Didn't feel like jack Tuesday or Wednesday, but definitely on the mend now.

A refreshing -33C (-41C windchill) this morning with similar temperatures thru Saturday.

Last Thursday we had a windstorm with gusts hitting 100 km/h. A tree came down at the end of the block and took out power in my corner of the world between 0930 and 1700. Houses across the street didn't get their power back until 2100. Luckily temperature was just around 0C.

Lots of power outages in the surrounding area too. A semi-trailer truck was blown over closing the highway for a few hours while they righted it.

I remember high winds blowing through Casper Wyoming when I was a kid. Have a big scar on my right thumb from one wind storm blowing a screen door shut on it when I was 3. Yeah I still remember that 65 years later.
 
My electrician he won't be able to energize both my main panel and the one dedicated to the furnace, long story but it roots back to the farm house days of just doing it so it's done attitude. Think I'd rather have lights and other stuff and move space heaters around instead of snaking drop cables around to get the fridge fired up.

Just put the frozen stuff on the back patio. BTW how's your knees? Gary S.
 
Looks nasty down there. The warm spell we had this past week is now gone. -41C (-41.8F) this morning. I My knees and back have alerted me to the fact they "Don't wanna go out".
Guess I'm staying in and playing games.

Except for the water heater our house is total electric. I spent part of the day splitting wood and stacking it on the back deck under a tarp. The fireplace is in the living room so that is where we plan on surviving when the power goes out.
 
Electrician is here rigging up the bypass to allow me to power our main panel, sadly the gas furnace is not on that panel but the shed is, so I'll have heat in the shed! :lol:
