Bandai 1/144 MS-06S Zaku II

Had this in the stash for a long while - A 1/144 RG (real grade) Bandai Zaku II. This line is a bit different from the 1/144 HG (high grade) and 1/100 MG (master grade) as it's more like a mini version of their 1/60 PG (perfect grade kits. Confused yet?
If you compare the two 1/144 lines then the RG basically has far more detail and almost seems as if Bandai really don't want you to paint it as the parts come in multiple shades of colour and are broken up along panel lines.
I've done 2 of these RGs before and the best way is to paint all the parts (the armour pieces at least) separately then assembly it unlike the HG or the MG which are best built up unpainted first then broken down into sections once you know what to paint.

My main goal here is to tone down the gay pink of Char's custom paint job (normal Zaku IIs are army green colours).

First off I did the weapons - Zaku Machine Gun, Zaku Bazooka and a Heat Hawk (axe). The machine gun had some nice shell detail that would have been hidden by a cover so I cut the lid off and added a little PE plate to make it a bit more interesting -

For a change and to add a sense of scale to the Mobile Suit I did the 1/144 figure that came with it (I think those that don't know Gundam that well may not realize how big these things are supposed to be) -

The guy on the left is the Zaku's pilot - Char Aznable the other is for the Strike Gundam that you'll see in a sec.
Now on to cutting the pieces off the sprue and painting them -

This build got me in the mood to finish off my RG 1/144 Strike Gundam that I started last year -

You'll see a bit more of that when I take final pix of the Zaku. Now to get this thing put together!

Thanks chaps! Well I will call this done, Bandai give you stickers instead of water slides so make of them what you can - only thing that lets the kits down really.

Was getting ready to set up the bench for the final shots so I turn my back for two minutes and all Hell breaks loose -

ESCAPE!!

That's it I'm not building any more Zakus!
