Bagge's 8.8cm Panzerjägerkanone Pak43

It's looking good Mats, the nice thing about soldering is you can desolder, clean up and try again. Flux is a necessity as well as the surface you're going after being clean. I did some soldering on the Jeep this weekend. Not much but just enough to put a grin on my face. I need to get a new tip for my gun.

Our old Master Watanabesan did a great series on soldering.

Those small rivets protrude through the shield, so be careful while you're working on them. Laying the shield flat pops the rivets back out, ask me how I know. :D Extra care too, because there are only a couple extras. :facepalm

Looking good Mats. You might need a new tip. Soldering iron tips should never be files or sanded. They end up doing what yours is doing. Get a new tip and wrap it in solder. Let it sit and cook for a bit then clean off the solder. It will be tinned and last a long time. Even if the solder has a flux core that is for last second cleaning as the solder melts. There is not enough to help with flow. Dont use an acid based flux either as it will corrode for a long long time. Hope thats of some help.
James

PS maybe a small torch over the soldered parts would flow the solder.

Thanks for the tips about the soldering! :) will look for a new tip and some flux

I placed it on some foam-insulation and punched some small holes where the "things" protrude trough the shield, then it's "just" to glue them in place......all 30! :bang head
