AMPS INTERNATIONAL Atlanta, GA 2013

Iron Mike

Master At Arms And Resident Curmudgeon
The long awaited and debated trip to Atlanta finally arrived! We arrived early, as at past shows at the Marriott, parking was at a premium. We were pleasantly surprised to find a great space and headed inside. The AMPS folks had a large block of meeting rooms and the vendors actually had space for folks to look around. Of course, the Archer tables were right up front and "someone" blew half his budget in the first five minutes! There were a lot of vendors from around the country, pricing was reasonable and it was fun to finally meet some of the people that one gets to know in cyberspace. Even our flyboy, Phantom II admitted he had fun at an armor show! :D

With the AMPS method of judging, taking photographs of everything is nearly impossible, so what I did shoot is just a cross section of what was really there. Great work by lots of good modelers!

From the JUNIORS section!!

Looks like a cool show. I see Chucks girls were out in droves. Ken looks intent, was that the Passion Ba-6? If so Man its tiny, and no optivisors either :notworthy :D

Greetings,Ron.

And Ron, would you believe not one grill or keg anywhere in sight? :smack

I didn't get enough chins out of the way for the pictures :bang head

And I did not BLOW my budget...it was well spent. :mpup

you got some shots of stuff i didn't see. I wish they could judge in place, maybe have all the judges hit it in one swoop and let us see everything on display. As it was, it looked like it was half empty.

Erik's red staff car looks so much better in person than what any photo can capture. If you're ever at a show he brings it to, be sure to check it out. Well done sir! :drinks

The highlight of the show was meeting all the folks that we've come to know on these here internets. Good to meet John of UMM, he had all his best tools for sale, he was another vendor I made happy.

I forgot to ask any of them to see about making a brass bazooka :bang head

I did ask Archer folks about aircraft dry transfers, they told me that after they do all the armor they will start with the aircraft, so we got that to look forward to...wait...huh? Maybe we can talk them into at least giving us some basic insignias.

Had a great time as always! (y)

WHAT?...does Mats and I have to come across the Atlantic to show you guys some civilisation? :silly:

Must have been a great show if even Chris had a good time. :)

Greetings,Ron.

Well, Saul, as long as nobody's selling t-shirts or taking credit (good luck with that) I don't really care. It would have been nice if they had asked permission, though.

I'm not sure what the differences are but I believe there are some minor ones as the kit is actually taken from the Miniart BA-64(r)in German markings with crew. I used decals from another manufacturer.

I'm not sure what I'm trying to sell in that close up though... hair club for men?

Chuck, you are way more forgiving than I. I'd be on the AMPS forum right now making a stink. I had assumed they asked you to use them when I saw them, having read your reply here however I see I am wrong. Personally, I'd be livid if they just took something of mine and copied and used it without even an email...

in fact I'm going to ask around to satisfy my own curiosity. If it's who I think it is, he's done something similar to me (and Saul I think) :vmad

As for meeting the guys, it was great. A real pleasure to finally talk face to face with a few of these guys (and even answer a few difficult questions honestly. ;) )

Okay, I just got in from a 16+ hour drive home. Time to try and make it to the bed before I pass ou-

Ken, it is exactly the same kit except for the added sprues for the figures. I have both at hand (Vision and the same Miniart one with German figures). Have you seen the Minor-Web detail set?

As for what happened in the past, well you saw my reaction...
:zen
I am working on being more forgiving but you know we North Easterners can't easily adapt to California!
:yipee

Regards,

You don't think those pictures got in here accidentally, do you? :D

It's Chuck's call, but I'd at least get a free AMPS membership out of the deal.

Have a safe trip home Ken.
