I sat down started working on the Roden kit, I could never display these two together they are so different. Roden has some weird wing details that I'm not even going to start scrubbing off.
I guess I got my bluff called on a pair huh.
BTW, I got these decals in the WnW Albatros DV "MvR" version, it was a bonus set along with Albatros DIII decals. I was able to find a link to the instructions. WnW website is still hosing the files but there doesn't seem to be any browsing of the old site.

The triplanes had faces so I have references. What are you referring to about the wings?

I have a lot of the windsock magazines in print and other formats. They are so well done that you should have some form of them available.

It's those triangle shapes between the ribs. Roden has them protruding up like 2 scale inches. Thanks for the input guys, I'm not going to build the Roden, life too short when there's the WnW Meng option

The oils are cured and I gave it a gloss coat of AlcladII Clear Base so it's rather rock hard.
Masked off and squirted red.

Will do another clear coat then start with some stickers.

Dont know myself, maybe a flat red and a semigloss wood. Hard to tell till you try it

I'm thinking satin and some dead flat up tops, I don't think these things would have been polished.

Not polished but the dope paint they used was not a flat paint. It was usually a clear gloss. Like the old model airplane dope that my dad painted stuff with as a kid on the balsa airplane kits. I think the WWI German stuff in the Air Force Museum were all gloss.

I think after aa few sorties the gloss would have retreated pretty quickly on a material base. Even the polished WW2 fighters and bombers had to be regularly maintained to keep gleaming and thats metal! Sun, wind and rain, especially winds at high speed in high altitude sunlight would have had a dramatic effect. Not to mention not much time at this end of WW1.
Nota lot of shine happening anywhere here... though admittedly I am a 'not much gloss' kind of guy

And here is a good example, a white Pfalz with a very matt finish and quite dirty too.

and another, all very dirty and matt.
