Re:60CM Karl Its Big , and Heavy , and Done 4/8/2010

mighty fine looking outcome there! congratulations!

although IMHO the tracks need a little bit more attention!

Re:60CM Karl Its Big , and Heavy , and Done 4/8/2010

What else could I do to the tracks? I did notice on roller is leaning, but it will move back in line, I did do a light weathering. What wolud you suggest? This is the first time I have used thease tracks.
thanks
Jim

Re:60CM Karl Its Big , and Heavy , and Done 4/8/2010

painting them black as a base, then paint over that with brown, then give them the pigment treatment and as finish draw them over sandpaper so that the durface of some links look worn down! that's what i would do!

Re:60CM Karl Its Big , and Heavy , and Done 4/8/2010

Ok I will give it a try, what do you meay by pigment treatment?
thanks
Jim

Re:60CM Karl Its Big , and Heavy , and Done 4/8/2010

well - if you have pigments handy mix them in a small bowl with a little bit of water and white glue! then apply them with a brush wherever you want them!

when they have dried they look like accumulated mud between the track links!

if you want tonal variation repeat that with different pigment colors but let every layer dry before you apply the next!

ok I am kinda confused is pigments paint? or can you give me a brand name of what you use, that way I can see what it is. I have never done this before, I always just painted the tracks, but am willing to try something new.
Jim

pigments are powders! pigments are the base of colors!

there are several pigments out in the market - the most famous are from migproductions (expensive), then the ones from vallejo (expensive) and rather new but good quality pigments are DOA (cheap)

-> Vallejo: http://www.acrylicosvallejo.com/

-> MIG USA: http://migproductions-usa.com/index.php/pigments/pigments/jars.html

-> DOA: http://www.blmoore.com/accessories.htm

i use artitec pigments: http://www.artitec.nl/index.php/en

the cheapest way would be to buy pigments in any artist supply shop close to you! you just would have to tell them the amount and tone you want and they should be able to get them for you!

Try the DOA pigments, they're a start up company so buying from them is good since the quality is very good and a good value as well. I have the pigments, some paints, and will be buying their washes.

Another company, relatively new to the scene are War Pigs. Yet another company selling to armor modelers is CMK's Star Dust. Last is the grand pappy of them all, Doc O'Briens Weathering Powders.

Regards,

Thanks all I am starting to find the pigments from all the companys listed above, but I don't think any of the hobby shops in my area carry them so I will have to have them shipped in.
Jim

I found some pigments at a hobby shop this weekend. They are MIG
Russuan Earth
Light rust
Track Brown
I am going to expermint on leftover track, and will post the results
thanks
Jim

great subject - what a bad boy! You also have the loader which wil go great together.

Don't forget that the pigments can be mixed just like paints and you can use any medium - water, metho, terpentine, white glue and water..........it's up to you. YOU can also control the thickness of the mix as well as use them in dry powder form to shade and stain.These are all the reasons why pigments are so good...versatlility. ;)

Good luck, have fun experimenting.
Ian.

Ok I have the base coat on the tracks black, and brown now I have to put back on the Karl then I will try the pigments.

Re:60CM Karl Its Big , and Heavy , and DONE

Jim, great finish. looks like you got some silvering on Eva, have you seal coated it yet? Maybe a little decal solution will clear that up. I love the dusting treatment down on the tracks.

When you ready, send me the raw image to be submitted for publication.

Re:60CM Karl Its Big , and Heavy , and DONE

Oh this is what you're talking about. Jim just send me the raw jpg image from the camera, not the .raw format image. No need to resize or anything. This GB has not been published yet.
