25 PDR field gun (Ongoing project)

Good point Bob, i was thinking rubber tyres running on it but really it would be sand and rubber running on it so i doubt there would be much paint left on the track, i will fix that thanks :)

I presume the carousel is in fact a track for the tires so the gun can be swung round on a smooth surface.

The Carousel is called a base plate. It does help with the swinging around but it is mostly there for a steady firing base. Guns on theyr wheels roll back (even if they have shovels in the back) This means after a few shots they have to be realigned to still fire on target. With a base plate you have about 3 times as many shots before realigning.

Base plates dont work at all with large bore guns though as the recoil is so large that they will just glide a few feet back with every shot. If you have a diorama it will be more accurate to have it lowered to the ground.

I have had the privelidge of firing a few shots with the 25 pounder while I was in the artillery. We used it for ceremonial gun firings and we used blancks left over from WW2 :pilot

Thanks for that Dave, the base plate is exactly the same dia as the wheel base of the gun which sort of gives the game away :)

Hi Paddy,

I made this dio some 4 years ago, just to learn the same things as you do now:
working 3D with heights and lows.
Its on my redo list now, Im not satisfied about anymore, learned a lot meanwhile.
But maybe you can get some inspiration from it, or even better: the do's and donts.

Succes !

Thanks Willem , I'm going to put up some kind of building as a back drop but all ideas welcome.

My idea is a LRDG supply dump. but we shall see.

Limber is done, this will only be a minor part of the backdrop, possible dumped with some other stuff at the side of the building. I might remove a wheel and give it a puncture :)

That is really coming along nicely, Paddy! I especially like the rusty fender. Keep on rockin'! (y)

BAM!!!! :coolio

the benefits of PE on armour are much greater than aircraft in my opinion, this is partly because of the larger scale (1/35) and partly because its mostly external on armour.
This is the PE front bumper with a few bits of 1mm dia plastic rod against the kit part

and the reverse side. note how the bumper bar is mounted on leaf springs :)

I plan for this truck to be in the workshop so extra detail is welcome.
I have been trying to find a colour for the engine block etc. for this model but without success.
It used the 4-cylinder 3.5 litre petrol engine by Morris i think. Later morris mini car engines were Green i think but any help would be great :)
