Yes...and probably some graphite as well to buff up some of the parts and give them a metallic type sheen
 
Thanks Dave...it's actually paint I had used to prime my old John Deere tractor with before the classic green and yellow. It's a rust primer (Krylon I think?) and I like it because it also gives a bit of texture to the parts...just rough enough to pass for rust IMHO....
 
A bit of progress....the hairspray method didn't work with the paints I was using so I'm taking a step back to rethink...here is where she sits now:
