Rivet for pivot

Hi guys, I have tried to make this. I have tried to find references here on how to do it. I have tried to find a solution or materials online. I have looked on youtube for instruction. My search skills are not great anyway, but I want to make working hood hinges for my car. I need a rivet or something with a head on both sides that holds two pieces of PE thickness metal together that allows it to pivot and move. I have tried fishing line, styrene rod but the heads are often too big and the play is way too much. I have tried 3D printing but the parts are just way to small to work (for me). Does anyone have any other ideas? Here is an image of what I am trying to do. It may be impossible, although the A4 Garage guy did it but I can't tell how and he doesn't say, just shows it done. I think he used insect pins, but how does he make them stay in place and keep the tolerances tight?

PE to be movable while tightly against each other needs polishing and lubrication or a washer. Just a thought.
a washerrrrrr...hmmm, yes, lordy, that would be tiny. Surely that is out there somewhere.
Graphite could be the lubricant easy enough. I used it on my son's Pinewood Derby axles.
 
You are going to have to get some fairly hard brass to make that mechanism out of Greg. At a guess .010 thick. If it is too thin or soft it won't support the weight of the hood, it will just bend. I am sure it can be done, but it will need all metal parts, and some careful measurements from your 1/1 scale parts to get it to work right.
