Trumpeter 1/48 Cessna A-37B Dragonfly

Why, Thank you, amigo. I was having fun till this canopy decide4d to go into a twitch. I'll get it sorted out soon enough, I recon.

LAU-68 Rocket Pods

Yehaaaaaaaaaa! I sneaked into the bunker and we’ve finally made it to the rocket pods, so we know we’re about to take this Tweety for a spin. Well, it would definitely be fun to do that again, but we still have a few minor things to tend to first, like arming this ‘lil birdy. I was wanting to add BDU racks, but getting the scale correct would have been a chore. I could order BDU’s from Flying Leathernecks Scale Creations, but not the rack, so I’ll have to settle for just the LAU-68’s. I didn’t see anything that resembled this rack. T’sall good, this bird looks great with just the rocket pods.

These launchers had a rough texture to them, not clearly visible in these pics, but IMHO, from what I remember and the photos I’ve seen online, that is incorrect. Why is there a rough texture to these pods? Who knows, but that’s an easy fix, and these beauties are so “cool,” I can easily over look that issue. The guys at FLSC have a pretty decent line-up of ordinance, so check em out. https://www.flyingleathernecksdecals.com/

The pods were primed and given a coat of Tamiya Olive Drab mix. Once that dried, I applied Blitz Rounds metallic colors for the metal works followed by an Ivory Black oil wash for definition. Lastly, I added the smoke stains in the tubes and on the face with some of Mig’s pigments. You can’t see them in these photos, but I did add electrical lanyards to the appropriate locations on each pod and drill into the bottom of each bomb rack to insert them.

Other than finishing the canopy, for the 100th time, I will make the “Remove Before flight” flagging and rack pins, add the antennas, and install the canopy and piston. We’re almost ready to sign off this birdy and let er rip.

More to follow soon, and thanks for watchin. Cheers, Ski.

Yeah that's the curse of having that technical knowledge. My peeve is making sure arming wires are on hard bombs. I've never attempted to have the retaining thing on the rack, figure that would be pushing it.
Looks sweet Steve! :popcorn

You ain't kiddin. I was tempted to put the wires/cables for the quick release, but decided against it due to the delicate nature of this thing. I've refabricated or replaced several parts already due to clumsy handling or sausage finger attacks. I have plenty of super tin copper wire, but will you see it? If this was 1/32, I'd be doing, most definitely.

I'm still enjoying the build, but would like to move on, if ya know what I mean. It's that time.

Hey Bob,

I was at Lowry twice; 1975-76 and '83. First time I went through the Black Shack as a 462X0. Uncle Sam discovered a hearing loss and disqualified me the day after I finished the course. The second time I was there for 4021 school, Munitions Officer Course. Your can be deaf and be an officer; no flight line work. Then they sent me to Whiteman which was a missile wing,

We had Tweets at Plattsburgh. The officers used them to keep up the flying time. The FB111's burned too much fuel. Several of the senior staff had dogfights with them, until SAC found out...

Ironic in that I probably lost my hearing standing under B52s with all 8 running.
Yeah we've talked about that Barny, I probably had to salute you somewhere around Lowery back then.

No kiddin, again! Dash 60's, pulled many, many times while still running, during exercises, and they can make you deaf in an instant. Small world, Gents!

Although, I must admit, construction took my hearing, not even 13yrs as a FA instructor, but a huge 18ga, 28' steel stud slamming less than a foot from my head onto the deck. That made my right ear almost useless. Life is strange.

First EM I came in contact with says "How ya doing, Barney?" and then he saw the ID and orders. The NCOIC at the Billeting office and I had been friends at Plattsburgh... My 4 years as a USAF officer were not enjoyable, for many reasons. I should have never accepted the commission.

Not to completely highjack the thread, I got hearing aids this year, I did not realize how death I was till they plugged those things in my ears!
Sorry Steve - short hijack:smack: - I have constant loud ringing in my ears from my time in the army with an M60 - I think it was worth it though :)

No worries, Gents, I think we're fine, we're good. My wife would like me to get a set, but it's just a certain audio range, as in, the voice of a wife, range.😆😂🤣😜 All kiddin aside, mine isn't that bad. It can't be, cause high pitch sounds hurt my ears immensely, baby crying, loud bangs, the bird in the kitchen chirping, stuff like that.

P.S. Flagging is going on, antennas almost finished. I'm setting up for a photo shoot this week.
