Latest Acquisitions Revisited!

Thanks for the links and photos James. I think both Saúl and I thought you were talking about the Havok.
As to access, there is a hatch over the engine compartment on the rear.

The pods are also such that they can go on either side.

I had known about this variant for years (from the 80's when I was really into collecting VW's)
Imagine my surprise several years ago when these photo showed up. It is definitely original except for the engine. Too many little things all over confirm that it is what it is supposed to be.
oh dear, now that takes the word "Kübelwagen" really to the next level.

For those not knowing, the german word "Kübel" translates into bucket. in the 1930ies it was used for a more dirty bucket a latrine bucket. Nowadays it would be used as a plant bucket. But then there is also a verb "kübeln" which has the meaning of pouring something. In a more dirty meaning it would mean to vomit. - So, now put this all together and the word "Kübelwagen" gets a quite different meaning, not? :)

@Rhino, I may hit you up on some knowledge. My last resin casting was decades ago to finish up the GALLON of polyester resin (crap) which I did without vacuum assistance.

I bought this for my A-20G-1-DO conversion as I didn't want to junk a kit. I only need to make one solid nose which will also act as the weight to keep the model from being a tail sitter. I have the Legos to create the mold box. The clear resin for the wingtips (no details so I went with an extremely cheap epoxy resin) but would like my nose to have minimal shrinkage (I hated how I had to create masters approximately 5% larger due to shrinkage depending on the mass).

What resin would you recommend? Polyurethane? If so, any specific brand to create one nose?

Clear resin was half off clearance at Michael's and I also had rewards so, free! Best of all, I created a Valentine's heart for the Mrs.

I use Smooth-On Smooth Cast 320, 2-part liquid polyurethane plastic. I buy it from Reynolds Materials. My mold RTV is MoldMax 10.
I use 60 psi in a pressure pot to insure both are void/bubble-free.

Hey, do you want to send me the solid part/parts you want molded, and I'll make the mold for you? I could cast a couple as well.
If you make atmospheric (unpressurized) castings from a pressure treated mold, the mold it works just fine. The reverse is not true.
I would be happy to assist!

That being said, Tin-cure RTV is the same composition as I use. There isn't a thing wrong with what you have here.

I would love that but I only need one nose... You might want to keep the mold as it will be the only way for modelers, with the AMT kit (as I refuse to pay $100+ for the HK Models release as @jeaton01 predicted), to build an A-20G earlier than the A-20G-20-DO. Anyone who asks me can be sent to TLAR.

Since I don't need much resin, let me see what I can find...

I would use a plastic cup as a mold box. Cheap, easy & sacrificial! After I filled it with plasticene clay, I would also make a short pedestal (another lump of clay) for the G Nose, to preserve the mating surfaces.

I respect intellectual property. "Shameless Copies" cain't be legally sold. I am NOT Chinese!

Do people not often offer you a Model Favor? I just opened a new Moldmax 10 and I'm getting ready to pour RTV on several projects.

You may refer to Moonpuppy, errains and Helios for character references, if you wish.

No need for character references as I have seen what you have created since you share it openly.

As for intellectual property, the gun nose has been modified to add fasteners, hatches, and the shell ejection chutes. From my thirty plus years of dealing with model companies, if it helps them sell models, they're for it! Especially if the parts are modified. The AMT molds are being passed around to Italeri and Revell since AMT stopped with their aircraft lines. To play it safe, I will call them, the Aluminum Model Toy Company, tomorrow. I already sent an e-mail to Round 2 who owns the molds. Why? Others should be able to build the variants without having to wait for it from HKM, which may never come, or trash a kit. Let's see what happens! :D

I've got legos also, but saw this and am thinking it might be worth while when I finally try resin casting. Maybe of interest Saul.

If the mold box is silicone, be sure to use a good mold release. In the old days, we dusted the boxes with talcum powder. I like plastic souffle' cups because the indentation in the bottom makes an overflow edge. Not much I mold is as grand as the 1/48 Havoc-G gun nose you have planned.

True... I imagine myself with your Orca (from Jaws):

Truly tiny stuff you do there but my intent was to have that nose also act a a weight to keep the aircraft from sitting on its keister! I got a reply from Auto World, the company that handles spare parts for AMT (among others). No dice on the parts but did ask to receive permission to cast a couple, one for me and the rest to recoup costs as I have not intention of selling many due to the scarcity of the kit and the new company on the block releasing the same subject. He will get back to me with an answer. A positive one will be written permission.

James, thanks but I really don't want to get into that messy casting anymore as I don't really have the skills and, as I mentioned, I simply want to replace a part with something can can add as the counterweight.

Excellent!
Scarce kit? Hmm.
I just listed an AMT/Ertl 1/48 P-70 Night Fighter on tlarmodels.com
yesterday. 7 other new 1/48 scale airplane model listings went live.

AAAAAAaaaaaaahhhhh!

So close! Looking at the cover art, since I never bought the kit, had me thinking it was a 'G' nose!

Alas, it is a solid version of the A-20C nose modified for the radar rod...

If it was the solid 'G' nose then I would jump on it as the fuselage is an early type, the cowls are the A-20B/C type, and therefore PERFECT for an A-20G-1-DO as I imply had to fill in the radar rod mounting hole and drill the four apertures for the guns.

Thanks for giving my heart a jump-start!

I carry some contemporary model kits, a few 1/72 Dora Wings, and Arma Hobby kits. Most of TLAR Models inventory is vintage, classic or rare kits.
It isn't all ship guy stuff.
I listed Italeri's 2011 new-tool 1/48 Hurricane Mk.1 yesterday. It was unsealed so I chronicled the kit contents completely. What an amazing Hurricane it is! I build mostly 1/72 aircraft, but I can see the attraction of 1/48 scale models.

I've been pretty good about not picking up new kits for awhile....

But that came apart during the SB Spring Clearance sale. :censored:

And ordered a S2.B Bucc for my birthday (have a 208 Sqn sticker).....along w/ a DotD Mi-35 last night. Been a rough March...good thing I'm working 20-35hrs OT for the next few weeks. 😅

Got some "Barracuda" camouflage net. Now I just need the RFM Leopard 2A6M CAN to arrive to use it on.

Keeping with the Leopard theme, a resin, printed,PE and sand conversion kit to build a Finnish Leaopard 2A6 FIN with my Tamiya Leopard 2A6.
