Thanks John, nice to see you posting again. I agree. Making a hobby store run tomorrow.Maybe a very thin semi-matte overcoat but a full gloss might darken it too much.
I"m doing the old Letterman technique. Got a base of Tamiya Iraqi Sand (I think) and black, burnt umber and raw umber and streaked the oils in lines.Wood grain = oil paint. you can buy little tubes and it works really well

Here's some test shots of painting. Wood grain for the cockpit floor. I'm really not sure what it's supposed to be but I'm making it wood grain.

The wing section was primed, black base shading between the ribs, dazzled in some Nato Brown and a really thin Tamiya OD FX 62. I wonder what a gloss coat would do to the tones.
