Your Best Build

Iron Mike

Master At Arms And Resident Curmudgeon
Pretty simple, please post a couple photos of your best completed build to date and why you like it. Any genre, any year, any century, let's see what you have. :eek:hyeah :drinks

Mine has to be the WNW Albatross.

It was so far out of my comfort zone (plane, WWI, woodgrain, mammoth decals, rigging) and such a pleasure to build.

Here's the thread on it since there are a lot of photos: https://www.modelersalliance.org/forum/to-end-all-wars/150238-wnw-albatross-d-va-oaw?start=72

I have 2 Builds I'm very proud of.

Monogram's USS Halsey, built as DLG-22 USS England.
Not an easy kit to build. She was awarded a few times.
I built her for a retired USS England Snipe, as an Honor model.

Transfer of Command ceremony. Captain RJ Lundgren assumes command of USS England.
I stand relieved, Sir.
:salute :eek:ldguy :captain
I'm trying to find pict's of the VA-65 Tiger's A-6 Egg-truder I built for Steve Davis. He's been with The Tigers on 3
different US Navy Aircraft Carriers.

I wish I could say my Brass Halftrack but the paint job just sucks beyond words.

Also wish I could say my Eindecker is but I see too many flaws in it, next one...great... :bat

The Belle, just because i like Jugs.. :D
Fair amount of research went into this as well, staring at just a couple of color photos and again, the guidance from you all.

What's my best one? Like Saul said, hope my next one. :good: :tomato

Think of this thread like the old door frame or post that your folks used to make marks on to see how much you've grown. We can look back and realize the progress we've made. I know it's not easy to pick one, but there's really no wrong answer is there?
Please limit to one build per thread, if you finish one that is better, post it up in a new response. :ro:

This pic shows two models, but I cannot find any pics of my Dora alone. I may have to upload her again.

Dora is still my best model to date. My Magnum Opus:

So far I have not bested this one.

This is not my best build technically. I has its flaws here and there. It's just the one I most like to look at. Monogram 1/72 RB-36H.

Wow, you actually completed that! I think I started one when I was in the USAF but quickly ran out of room in the barracks. :rotf

I believe this to be my best model to date. I continue to work on my painting technique. Whether I am improving I will leave to the judgment of others.

It may surprise a few of you but i feel this panther/Ersatz m10 has been my best build personally. The dioramas are more exciting and have way more detail but the research, paint and added weld seams where the tool racks were taken off really required an all round effort from every aspect - even the steel cable on the back. Also the fake turret sheet metal had to be modified to stay in place.
Sorry about the 2 photos but i thought i should show a shot before the paint.

That's some fine work, everyone! Two photos are fine. Let's see some more, please?! :ro:

Best build, that's a toughy :idonno I tend to see faults in every thing I build and as others have said I hope my best one will be my next one. That said I will post this as being my favorite build as it was more of a challenge than most and turned out better than expected which is just the opposite case with most of my builds. The Koster 1/48 G3M2 Nell

I find this a difficult question . Guess it all depends what angle you look at it from .

The Clog was a real battle fest . The Swordfish a pile of real life detail . I love the paint job on the C.200 :idonno

In the end, I pulled a dusty one from last century , mostly because I just like the way it looks .

The Dragon TA 152H. from 1994

Hmmm... best build eh? That could mean a whole lotta things as others have suggested. I'll go for this one as I just like the way it turned out.

BTW, where is yours Iron Mike??? :idonno

Where's mine? I was letting the good stuff be posted before I joined in. This is one of my better works, it was loads of fun to build and I learned a lot along the way.
