Yeah that SBD caught my eye too. Makes me want to model it. The Dauntless was always my far and away favorite AC, but I thought only a Jug would take the weathering an armor modeler like myself can wrap my head around since pristine finishes aren't in my skill set (can't do cars either).
Looks like the rudder was replaced too.
Now I'm hooked (not tail), unless I can score an old AA kit, who currently makes a good SBD in 1/48?
Beautiful photos. I have a book at home about US Naval aircraft with color photos. Not only was I surprised at the wear and tear on the aircraft but on the ships as well. Two photos come to mind of the Essex class Hornet, one of her at the commissioning ceremony with a nice blue flight deck and another only a few months after on her shakedown cruise with the blue stain on the flight deck almost gone.
