25 PDR field gun (Ongoing project)

Thanks Bob
I am thinking that given the conditions, oil and sand and rust from boiled over radiators will be the order of the day :)

That's how I feel about PE to Paddy.
Even though they put a lot of it on a sprue you don't necessarily need to
implement it.

The bumper is a fine example of how it does have it advantages.

Bagge you are a star :)

My guess is that the silver and Black was original and their metallic Green is a reference to the post War morris engines like this ?

My thinking is to go with what ever will show up best given the small opening of the bonnet, one thing is for sure they would have to have painted them as they were cast iron and would have rusted away if they didn't.

Thanks again, i looked everywhere for that picture but being in England i only looked at english language sites. Another huge plus for our international comunity here :) (y)

Thanks for that Dave, the base plate is exactly the same dia as the wheel base of the gun which sort of gives the game away :)

Here's a You Tube video of a ceremonial 25 pounder being set up for firing . It shows how the base plate was lowered and also shows how the gun was moved up onto the base plate.

Be careful about having a punctured tire. As I far as i know the tires on the guns and limbers were run flat tires.

Cheers

Many thanks Peter, you couldn't have found a better video to demo the base plate, Excellent (y)

Right ...firstly an apology to everyone for wasting your time :( It seems that i am building a Ford gun tractor not a Morris gun tractor........told you i haven't a clue what i am doing here :) I came to put the engine together and its a V8 not a straight 4 !! Oddly the example of a Morris i found on the net was actually a Ford but wrongly labelled so i have slight justification.......the fact that the box has Ford on it is immaterial  because i didn't read it
EDIT.....i have now read a review of this kit and it says....

The first Morris C8 Quad was delivered in October 1939 and it then stayed in production until 1945. There were two major changes to the mechanical side of the vehicle, and two independent ones to the body. The engine/chassis design was used on other Morris types, such as the C8 15 cwt truck, and a long-wheelbase version was used to produce a self-propelled Bofors Light Anti-Aircraft Tractor.

and yet on the front of the box it says "Canadian V8 ford quad" but the Morris had a 3500cc straight 4 morris engine.
Now i am really confused.

You're vefy welcome.I thought that video was nice and clear.

In getting ready to build my Tamiya 25 pounder Idiscovered, 1.That I have two of those kits (minus ammo, boxes & racks & figures) in the kit box; and2. my old notes and an image that show the 25 pounder in Israeli service being towed or in use with a hard cab 2.5 ton truck like Italeri makes. I have that truck. I'llbebuilding both guns and the truck pretty much OOB for the group build.

Tractor unit is a Ford V8. My guess is these were built under licence from GUY and Morris in Canada which is why some seem to have Morris engines and some Ford.

It's looking pretty good. Will you be able to remove the gap between the body and the chassis at the fenders? Or are you just going to putty that?

I like how the seats look.

Cheers

Body is just balanced in position Peter, it will fit flush when its fixed. Kit mouldings are stamped 1974 but its actually pretty well up with today's standards i think.
