Wingnut Wings Moon Pup

What a jump! Looks fantastic- and makes me long for the smell of balsa sawdust and nitrate dope. Cheers, Moon!

Really Suberb, MP, the black looks great. Any more pics of the engine? Did you have to add any extra detail too it( the engine) ?

Looking forward to the next update! Randy

Thanks Randy. Sure, you could add a great deal of detail to the engine. I've seen where the valve springs and rocker arm were replaced but I figured not to do that on this build, got one in the works already. the only thing I'm going to add is the spark pug wires and some washes on it. most of the engine will be covered by the cowl.

Thanks Chuck :D

Sweet work Pup !!! ............. Sweet work !!! ..........

I didn't know the Oakland Raiders had a bi-plane , ..............

Very cool base to work from with the moon thingie and all , ......... looks great !!!

WOW MP, you are the master! Looks great. And I cant believe the black pre shading shows through.....black. Anyway, very well done, my friend!..........Harv :silly:

Harv it's more of a post shade and tinting. I started with the lighter black and worked it to dark. came back with the lighter one to clean up where I fell out of the lines...

Now, the Moon Puppy Moment. I got to redo the top wing. While working with the mask to get the rib tape worked right, I scratched the living crap out of the paint job. And right where the black part is. I also tried another technique I was thinking about for the CDL on the ailerons. Flat white acrylic and then a raw sienna filter. It rocks! I'm really thinking of stripping the top wing completely and maybe the CDL on the bottom... just wanting someone to talk me out of it.

Oh sorry, thought you where stripping and stuff and .....what was the question??

James

Fine...I'll strip it and pull a mulligan. At least I'm doing it now and not after the rigging is in place.

"... I cant believe the black pre shading shows through.....black. ..."
I thought the same thing: black on black...?

Thanks for explaining that one, Moon: cool technique. ;)

Very nice build: following it all the way!

BTW, those teeny weeny little PE parts that James linked to look like something out of a brain surgeon's book: Jeez they look small! :eek:hmy:

Cheers! B)

Say it ain't so!! My ethos is I'd buy another kit before I'd strip any paint. How's that?! :pinch:

Dude, it's been known to happen, you think I just had 4 wildcat kits laying around?

James talked me in to trying to fill the scratches with Future and over paint. We'll give'er a shot, if that don't work, it's take if off time!

Looking real fine Moon...might have to ask for one for Christmas ;)

I know Polly Scale makes a doped linen color in their line as I have used it on my Eduard Bebe...

Thanks Jeff, gotta admit it's been fun.

We'll will chalk this save up for James. Did the Future treatment and was able to sand it down slightly and the scratches are gone. I sprayed some more paint tonight and it looks like we're going to be OK with the top wing. It's still there but not as noticeable.

I also sprayed flat white on the undersides and doing a yellow ocher filter to get the CDL. It's about the same color as the antique white but far less uniformed as the paint was. I left half the wing undone and will get a picture tomorrow to show the progress.

OK I braved the cold, I know James would have had his flip flops and bermudas on because it's only 26f here...

here's my revised CDL.

The left side is just flat white. May need to make it a bit more heavy to be seen well.
