What do you use for a paint booth?

Hi Guys
I've decided to move my painting setup from the garage downstairs (too cold) to a spare bedroom
upstairs. In the garage I have a medium size compressor and a metal box thing. I just turn on a fan
and open the garage door for venting.

Upstairs I have a spot right next to a window I can put a paint booth.

I'm curious to see what you guys are using and maybe get some ideas.

Thanks,
Tom

I have a cabinet that I've put a squirrel cage fan on.It should be ducted outside, but right now it is set up to go through a water trap filter.

I use a Pace Peacekeeper. Its a bit pricey but worth every penny to me. Unless you are trying to do a 1/350 aircraft carrier, it will accommodate just about any size model you can think of.

I needed something where I could paint year-round and also not poison my kids and pets. I'm in northern Illinois so I have a maybe 6 month window where I can paint in the garage and its rapidly closing...

Also, unlike most other companies, you can purchase the replacement filters at any hardware store.

Good luck on whatever you decide.

Thanks guys!

Hmmm...what do you think of this...

Edit: I did some research and I would NOT recommend this booth. The fan is woefully underpowered. It is designed
for acrylics only, meaning the fan moter is not spark proof. If you spray solvent based paints it could catch fire.

I have a Paasche booth, but I can not recommend it. Its sheet metal and pretty flimsy. The parts are just stuck together. So every time I have to move it it comes apart. Eventually getting me a better one once we have a new house.

Here is a pic of our setup, it blows out thrue a vent in the wall, but it is pretty cold there now so i paint and then bring the stuff inside where it's warm, soon we move to a house where we gonna make a special room for modelling and then i put the spraybooth there :D
The spraybooth i made at my work from leftover metal, and the fan i had laying.

Have to ask how to vent it out the house?

I bought a length of dryer ducting from Ace and a dryer vent fitting, used a friends 4" hole saw drill attachment, cut a hole through the drywall and siding, and attached the vent fitting.

I highly recommend borrowing the attachment if you can since they are like 25 dollars and unless you plan on cutting more 4" inch holes in walls, it will never get used again much less pay for itself.

Went out just now and took a quick pic. Its windy and raining so I had to make it fast:

I wanted it lower but the foundation comes up too high.

Well, I went ahead and sprang for a Pace paint booth. I was concerned about using solvent/lacquer based
based paints and alot of the booths I found say they intended for acrylics only...lots of horror stories
on the net about guys blowing up when spraying solvent based paints with the wrong type of exhaust fan.

These aren't exactly cheap, but you get what you pay for and I doubt I'll quit modeling in the next
month or two, so why not suck it up and get a really good one.

I ordered the Mini Plus, should be here next week...now just have to decide on a compressor.

Good for you! I was the same way when I was shopping for a booth. The wife is the one who told me to get what I want now so I don't change my mind later on.

Hey Jeff...geez, I guess I wasn't paying attention, I hadn't noticed you have the Peace Keeper.

I take it you are happy with it then.

Nice, if it were any lower the fumes would kill the shrubbery.
