The US Air Force has announced a new nickname for the first American overseas-based F-35A squadron, set to be stationed at RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk.
The 48th Fighter Wing has decided 495th Fighter Squadron, formerly the 495th Tactical Fighter Squadron, will be known as the 'Valkyries'
The wing had called on help from the public to name the unit with a final vote last December after 700 different suggestions were submitted.

Stopped to watch the F35's at Lakenheath today for half an hour. Unfortunately the wind was from the north so they were landing from the South . Very novel way of joining the Circuit today. Arrive back at base, flat out down the runway at 100ft then wash off the speed in a pull up vertical and roll to the right, level off at about 700ft, airbrakes out and undercarriage down for a right hand conventional circuit and land. Very impressive but these are A models and 15 miles up the road the RAF fly B models. Arrive at base...stop. land :)

No they have a photo and Video viewing area specially for just that at the end of the runway but i didnt have any equip with me.

This is shot from the viewing area.
