70 years ago tonight planes full of Paratroopers started loading up and taking off the first strike eastwards against fortress Europe will echo through history.

I was thinking the other day about this old fella who owned a nursery on the south end of town. My Mom would go by flowers from him and was always as nice as she could be to him, I'm sure he was a great guy and he enjoyed his work but he scared the hell out of me. See he had a prosthetic ear, not a very good one, it had discolored over the years, this would have been late 60s, early 70s. Very unnatural. Time went on and the nursery was no more, I didn't know what happened to that guy, don't even know his name. I did ask my Dad about him not to many years ago and of course he remembered him, said he was injured during the Normandy invasion but he didn't know the details. I do remember this man and his sacrifice. I only wish I were old enough then to understand at that time.
