The most suspenseful die roll ever.

Master at Arms
My sons and I are in the middle of a game of Axis and Allies, Global. If you're not familiar, it's a board game that simulates different campaigns, etc. This edition is the entire WWII map starting in 1940 on a 6 foot board.
About a week into the game I had a good squeeze on Germany: the Luftwaffe was decimated, only one lone Uboat was left hiding in the Med, Russia was pushing into Poland, the UK had cleared the channel, landed in Belgium and I painstakingly moved enough US material to Morroco and Gilbraltor to stage an invasion of Northern Italy. My son had 5 Panzer divisions sitting there in defense and I was invading with 7 divisions each of armor and infantry after a heavy bombing run and naval bombardment. Sounds like a lot, but whatever landed would need to survive both a German and Italian counterstrike to hold the factory so I could build on the next turn or the invasion would probably fail.
I killed off his Panzers, he was rolling in defense and on the last roll (he needed a three or less), our Lab pup jumped up and grabbed the die. After a 5 minute chase, by the time we caught him, he swallowed it. We were leaving for a short vacation the next day, so agreed if anyone saw the result during a walk, they'd be honest about it. We had a couple of laughs about the possible scene any onlooker would see as we followed the dog, rooting for a good outcome, but in reality, we forgot about it.
Two days after we got back, I'm woken at 4 AM to the sound of the dog wretching, only to find a perfectly clean die sitting in the middle of the floor...

...A SIX!

Haha, funny!

I remember playing A&A a few times w/ my ex-stepdad. I dont think we had the same version as you, I dont remember having a map that large, but I do remember it being quite a bit of fun.

Hilarious! :rotf :rotf :rotf :rotf

Love Axis and Allies. Contemplated making my own larger board once with 1/72 figures, 1/144 scale tanks and aircraft and 1/700 scale ships. Never had a space big enough for it though! :(

Glad you guys liked it. That die travelled a few hundred miles by car, a couple dozen on foot and probably another mile or two on the water swimming before it re-entered the game. B)

Axis and Allies has come a long way, they have a whole new updated selection of different editions that have different stages of detail. We have 1941, 1942, 1940 Europe, 1940 Pacific, Guadalcanal and D-Day. Depending on time and mood, you can pick what you want in terms of length and difficulty. The two 1940 editions combine to play Global, the boards together are over 6' X 3'. We built a table in the attic specifically for it, so we can keep the dining room table free and my wife isn't stuck listening to our trash-talking. ;)

My son came across 1942 in Barnes and Noble a few years ago and asked about it. I couldn't believe it and bought it immediately. Since then we've been collecting them, they just released a new one (1914) recently, so that'll be on the Xmas list I'm sure.
