The Grasshopper, something different

Thanks for the compliments Bob and Kreighshoer.

I'm going to start the dio by making a crude study of the scene from poster board to get a sence of proper space and balance and mabey a little instant gratification :)

Tim, old boy, that looks phantasmagorical! I found the MMIR issue and have it scanned it you want it, just PM me and I'll get it sent. Nice work! (y)

Heck, after looking at the magazine and then comparing it to yours, I don't think you need the mag! :notworthy

The grasshopper came out really well. I know what you mean by the camera eye not quite getting the color right. Sometimes if the white balance isn't set right the end color can seem off. I don't think you have anything to worry about.
I like factory dioramas, you have lots of opportunity for detail and to do things you don't get to do in front line scenes. Have fun with it,looking forward to seeing it.

Thanks for the comments Randy and slodder.

I've built a mock up of the diorama from foam core and stuck a figure in the scene to get a sense of space. Most of the crane will be using evergreen styrene like the girder in the one photo.

At this point the build thread may need to be moved to the diorama category?

Nice moch up -I like the outter wall. The crane has a good plan. There is something about the pillars in the near ground that doesn't work for me.
Maybe it's just that they are made from foam board. How about using more evergreen to give them a more 'steel' look? The spacing is fine, the shape is good (with the extra buttressing at the bottom), the height is good.... can't pin point it into words.

Hi slodder glad you like it.
Both the back wall and the foreground vertical supports for the crane will be open web "steel" girders like in the photos that cheyenne posted. Mabey thats whats bothering ya? if it aint and what is comes to ya let me know! There will also be horizontal I beams running the length of the pillar's for rigidity.
